Everything is so bleak and so dumb right now. I'm taking psychic damage just by being awake.

The illustrated police news July 1, 1899 An illustration of a lady in a big hat and dress clocking a man in the jaw while onlookers rush towards them on a country lane. Her bicycle is on the ground in the foreground. THRASHED BY A LADY CYCLIST. WHO IS NOTED FOR HER ATHLETIC POWERS. An extraordinary scene was witnessed on Saturday morning in Peel Lane, a thorough- fare connecting Little Hulton with Tyldesley, in which the principal participants were a young lady cyclist and a youth of nineteen or twenty. The lady was riding at a good pace, and when in a quiet part of the road the young man, who had apparently been imbibing, stepped into the roadway, and, addressing some insulting remarks to the cyclist, made as if he intended pulling her off the machine. She immediately alighted, caught hold of the astonished youth, and gave him a sound thrashing, using her fists in scientific fashion, to the delight of several colliers who were passing. The young man made off, and the cyclist, who is believed to be a Bolton Lady noted for her athletic powers, rode off towards Tydesley.
My favorite old timey bicycle lady story popped up on my feed.
I would donate to this, for what it’s worth
The Pioneer Square Preservation Board should raise money to rebuild this historical restroom or STFU
My proposal for making MLK Way safer is that the street on the west side of the tracks (green) should be turned into a linear park from Mount Baker Station to Rainier Beach Station. Turn the east side of the tracks into a two-way street.
Ok I decided to pull the video.
51 to 46. We did it. #waleg
We appreciate you!

It’s probably because I’m a middle-aged mom, but I’ve only gotten the “cheating” line one time—from a dad at the zoo who was absolutely ogling my RadRunner Plus. Come on, dude, just get one! No one cool will think you’re cheating!
We're very excited to be launching the new and improved @theurbanist.org website tonight.
The new site comes with the ability to become a subscriber and turn off ads, one of our most-requested features.

This Seattle housing thread demands your undivided attention!
Comparison between FEIS Alternative 5, where additional "Corridor" place type blobs were clearly visible near entrances to Carkeek, Magnuson, Discovery, Seward, and more. Yet they are completely gone without a trace in 2026 Corridors legislation. Additional caption on the figure read: "Why did you eliminate more housing near large parks? Do renters not deserve to live near parks?"
Final EIS January 2025, section 1-7 Place Types definitions Corridors are areas near frequent transit ***and large parks*** that allow a wide range of housing types in areas currently zoned primarily for detached homes (within a 10-minute walk from a light rail station and a five- minute walk from frequent bus transit service and ***entrances to large parks***). Corridors also include areas already zoned for multifamily and commercial use and could have small increases in height.
@ricoque-opcd.bsky.social Q5: In all Environmental Impact Statements, you define Corridors as "areas near frequent transit AND LARGE PARKS". Yet dense housing near large parks were all eliminated from your plan.
Do you think renters of affordable & social housing do not deserve to live near parks?
Hey, all. It's my birthday and I'm once again running & raising money for Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, which does very important work supporting families & kids. If you're able, I'd love it if you could donate any amount to help me reach my goal!

If you know any Washington State high school students have them apply for these free summer transportation camps. (I've been involved with indoctrinating them re: transit, sidewalks and nondriver access the last few years).
Satellite image from Google showing the area
Picture from last Saturday showing cars are parked on the curb side
It seems the protected bike‑lane markings were removed for construction, and without any markings the curb space has defaulted back to parking. (This is at Eastlake Ave E and Fairview Ave E.)
Have you figured out how to read library books on it yet?
Formidable indeed
“…disabled people are actually less likely to drive than nondisabled people and more likely to get around by walking and rolling and taking transit. Car-heavy cities are also disproportionately dangerous for disabled folks…”— @nondriver.bsky.social
Don’t use accessibility “as a political football.”
SDOT is hardening the greenway crossing at 83rd and Greenwood today, which will prevent drivers from using the street as a cut through and reduce left-turn conflicts during signal phases.
@seattledot.bsky.social the temporary bike safety barrier at Pine & 4th is SIGNIFICANTLY out of position (29”) and needs to restored immediately.
The bike lane is effectively 16” wide and creates a significant safety hazard for people crossing 4th.
I endorse Ron. He will be really good at this job. But dislodging an incumbent isn’t easy so he will need our help.
Good morning! I’m proud to say that all six of my bills that were alive at cutoff have PASSED the Senate and are on their way to the Governor. I think that’s a personal best for my prime sponsor legislation and a huge testament to the work of the amazing advocates on these teams. #waleg
The man, 68, is accused of "weaponizing" his car and intentionally running down the woman in the parking lot of a Bellevue YMCA.
Every time I sit waiting for imaginary cars at a red light on my bike in the rain I think about how Seattle spends millions of dollars on intelligent traffic signals to save drivers a few seconds but doesn't program them to skip or shorten left turns based on car detections.
The #WALeg House still has yet to vote on the Millionaires Tax! Our sources say that phone calls to lawmakers’ offices urging them to vote YES are what’s needed right now to keep the bill moving.
We've made that easy by setting up a simple way to plug in your info and call them with one click:
