That's great, thanks so much!
Ha! π very interested in those inhibitors, which ones would you recommend and have people tested them in flies before?
Good point! We went with beta because sgg leans that way and we used beta in the mammalian+in vitro experiments. Didn't feel that we can make a statement about alpha. Would love to hear your overall thoughts - always up for chatting! I did not know you're a York alumni, very cool and small world! π
Fly primary neurons arranged in a circle, tubulin labelled in green, actin in magenta.
Our article on how GSK3b controls microtubule bundling in axons is live π
Here's our #notthecover attempt

Great q!! That's what we're working on next atm - we think that is that it's active in the growth cone centre to allow MTs to explore, either inactivated at the membrane (via Akt) to promote or activated (via sema signalling) to block outgrowth
This work has been a long time coming and we were supported by amazing scientists making tackling GSK-3Ξ² complexity possible - thanks so much Andre, Marvin, Gareth, Lubna, Alex, Sanjai, Hayley and Antony!!
Images of fly primary neurons that express active or inactive GSK3beta stained for tubulin and a midel summarising how we think Shot and Tau microtubule binding is affected by low, optimal and high kinase activity.
"Your article has been published" π We found there's a sweet spot of GSK-3Ξ² activity required to keep axonal microtubules bundled in πͺ°π. Too much/little affect how Tau and Shot associate with microtubules leading to microtubules that loose bundling and resemble a bowl of cooked spaghetti π
Image of The Reyton's Kids Off The Estate record
This morning's album of the day featuring Yorkshire's @thereytons.bsky.social Kids Off the Estate was playing in a record shop and I had to get it on the spot
Image of vinyl of Puscifer's new album Normal Isn't
Since the start of the year I've been kicking off my mornings with an 'album of the day'. Today's pick: Puscifer's fantastic new album 'Normal Isn't'. Complex rock with goth and punk vibes, MJK and Carina's ethereal voices, excellent lyrics - highly recommend!
At a time when the UK should be capitalising on its global reputation as a great place to do science, this is an enormous own goal. I am so sorry for all those who jobs are going to be impacted.
Thank you very much for the invitation, I had a great time and it was lovely to see you again!
Need a reason to join next year's #NeuroBioUK? Here it is :)
Thanks Sally for the amazing review

Poster boards are ready and waiting for #NeuroBioUK - letβs get this science party started π₯³
We're kicking off the third #NeuroBioUK - an exciting day full of neuronal cell biology ahead!
Massive thank for @bscb-official.bsky.social support and a shout out to our industry sponsors!
hiya!
In contrast to tonight's sky I don't want to be dramatic, but there's only two more days left to submit an abstract to be considered for a talk at #NeuroBioUK

π¨The deadline for a talk submission is approaching soon - don't miss your spot!! We can't wait to see you in York π

Really, really amazing conference. We went last year and the scientific programme and atmosphere were incredible! I 100% recommend attending + submitting an abstract for a talk - spread the word! π§
π€£π€£ did they miss you?
Thank you @clarahowcroft.bsky.social, @toraks.bsky.social and David Dupe for getting the Northern Drosophila community together and organising the first NE fly meeting. We had a wonderful time, thanks for creating such a lovely, supportive and enthusiastic spirit. See you soon!
π₯³π₯³ So many good things happening recently (stayed tuned). This week, the York Neuro community celebrated that Molly Magarotto's first first author paper has been accepted. Congrats to her and the rest of the Han-Jou Chen team - they're on a roll!
It is already tomorrow, our first Fly North(East) England meeting at Northumbria University Newcastle! Co-organized with @toraks.bsky.social @dpdoupe.bsky.social. Looking forward to a day of bulding bridges and discussing how to nurture our network.

Registration is now open for NeuroBioUK 2025!
This year we're looking forward to hearing from our plenary speaker @cathyabbott.bsky.social. As ever, all other talks chosen from submitted abstracts so get submitting - we can't wait to see you there!

Registration is open for the third #NeuroBioUK!! @dozenoaks.bsky.social @alexfellows1.bsky.social and I are excited to see you again in York!
Flybase lost all of the NIH support overnight - it is a disaster for the community. Please consider donating. I just did! www.philanthropy.cam.ac.uk/give-to-camb...
not a bad place to celebrate great news π
