See, I was young enough when it came out to not find him totally abhorrent (but old enough to be like, "why is this becoming a political drama with some fight scenes and pod races?" Middle school is an awkward time)
Funny, I don't remember it feeling magnificent. The real plot was difficult to follow and the action was overdone. They're a massive tonal shift from the original trilogy and many long-time fans were deeply disappointed.
