Zero Waste Conference π¨π¦ started w/ a welcome from Alec Guerin, xΚ·mΙΞΈkΚ·ΙyΜΙm (Musqueam) Councillor. He encouraged us to use two-eyed seeing. With one eye see through the academic lens and w/ the other see through the Indigenous lens. Musqueam have been strategic with materials for thousands of years.

Hi Bluesky, I'm a freelance writer focusing on regenerative / sustainable tourism, biodiversity, nature, ecology and more. I'm looking for some starter packs, so I can follow editors looking for pitches, DMOs looking for creators, and other SciComm pubs.

Oh thank you for this! I'll add it to my resources. I'm originally from the States but have dual citizenship and recently moved to Canada. I wondered what would happen to programs like this as US government services deteriorate; it is good to know what we have here in CAN <3

In case it wasn't clear, Tambo was an actual live human being. He died a year later in O frickin Hio, USA of all places. His remains were displayed until they were returned to his land in 1994.

Me researching for a presentation: "climate change costs the world $16 million per HOUR (WE Forum, 2023)."
I'm sorry what?!? How people make this not an economic issue is just baffling. Also curious if the LA fires altered that statistic, due to the loss of assets from very wealthy people.

Humans and circuses are so cruel in ways I can't even fathom... This is why truth, reconciliation, and Land Back are so important. Also, all travel content creators should be doing land acknowledgments, IMHO.

I write land acknowledgments for blog posts about places with Indigenous history. I have a guide covering the Wulgurukaba People (AUS). I read this: "Tambo was shipped to the USA in 1883, responding to P.T. Barnum's call for specimens of' savage races' to be displayed in his traveling circus act."

Said goodbye to 2024 with forest bathing. Said hello to 2025 with a snowy hike. Sometimes I'm sad Metro Vancouver doesn't see mods snow, and other times it's quite nice to have snow-free low elevation hikes and snowy adventures in the mountains. Happy New Year!

My 1st manuscript has been in peer review status for a LONG time. I finally got an update that a few peer reviewers missed deadlines and/or failed to stick to their commitments. It is unfortunate that peer reviewing is unpaid. Is this common across academia and publishing or only in certain fields?

This happened to me when I moved from Alaska, US to Munich, Germany. It was so wild to just safely walk outside at night along a darker alley. It took a while for it to turn off, but when it did... Amazing. I now live in Canada and enjoy the same general peace of mind.

A clear gelatinous fungi grows onj a decaying log
A collection of mushrooms grow inside the bark of a tree
a unique brown fungus grows up from the mossy ground
Fungi Friday! Is that a thing? It is now. Which one of these from Olympic NP is your favorite? I can't decide between the clear jelly-like ones or the brown tentacles growing upright (those are my very scientific descriptions π). Is it mushroom season where you are? Share photos of your finds!

As a notoriously wordy communicator (I consistently max out the word count on every Instagram post and write long, detailed blog posts), I love the word count of Bluesky's bio! I can finally dump my education, what I do for work, my random smattering of interests, and the places I've lived.

A little forest therapy from the old-growth forest in Olympic National Park. Have you hugged a tree today?
The Epiphytes, or the collection of ferns, mosses, and lichens growing on trees here in Olympic, are breathtakingβtruly mindboggling.

I am loving it! I just downloaded my first book and the clarity of the book cover and maps is excellent. It's light weight, auto rotates, and has everything and more I loved about my old Kindle that broke and has been discontinued. The next step is to import some books from my Amazon library.
