When writers don't know what to do with a character they make them a cop.
I prefer that direct communication, as a Lancer GM I spend a lot of time trying to prevent my players from choosing options that will work against their build. It would be nice if the book backed me up.
Lancer has this kind of design, the upside is that when you figure out a synergy you feel like a genius. The downside is that you may go a whole campaign before you realize one of your systems is a dud.

84 years sounds like a long time. And I know in some ways it is. But it's also not that long. I still have living relatives who were in the camps and who were old enough to remember it. This isn't abstract or ancient history. It's part of the living memory I grew up with.
There was a D&D magic set and a couple MtG planes have gotten writeups as D&D settings. No one knows how to successfully monetize RPGs though, so that's only so helpful for D&D.
except in Magic it's an official licensed product

Sometime around the 2000s MtG designers realized that capping humans at 2/2 was preventing them from making characters with staying power because any burn spell could get them. Additionally, the game is power-crept to heck nowadays.
