#bskySPEECHIES can you help me convince Speech Pathology Australia to have a #bsky account for International Journal of Speech-Language Pathology? Can you repost my posts about accepted papers in early view? www.tandfonline.com/action/showA...

Mine has come up (RAISE) but I still use it in combination with 2 others - I couldn't change now!
#Speechies might think it won't apply to us but @natmunro.bsky.social @becsutherland.bsky.social and I have all had papers pirated by meta for their AI. Check your own and report them.

Thanks Tristan, it was an interesting piece of work - we have more papers coming from this data which is exciting
Thanks for posting, Caroline!
π§ Neurodevelopmental conditions like #Autism, #ADHD & more share overlapping traits. A transdiagnostic framework could unlock new treatments & better support for children.

I think I get asked for at least one a week, but I really can't commit to more than about one each month or two. Six in a year would be enough for me!
Such a treat to talk about autism with speech pathologists in my beautiful home town today. Lovely to meet so many passionate speech pathologists! Plus gin tasting with my family afterwards - a good day!
A record fine has been handed down to an NDIS service provider after a man choked and died in its care.
Congratulations to the 15 doctors who have referred the administrators of Orange Hospital -- a public hospital --to ICAC for last year's decision to ban abortions at the hospital. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-01...
This has the potential to be problematic if funders, decision makers, support services etc only look at the severity of autism characteristics, rather than the impact on everyday life
In this case (using very medical language, apologies for that) we mean specific autism characteristics as per DSM 5
..... the girls (AFAB) tested as less impacted if we only looked at autism symptoms, but their actual needs were just as high as the boys (AMAB). Similarly, there was no differences in tested IQ, but girls were diagnosed later on average
Thanks Gretchen! Adaptive functioning = range of activities of daily living, e.g. communication, self help, safety, motor skills etc. It was interesting that while autism severity was measured higher in boys (AMAB), the impact on daily life was the same across both sexes. So....1/2
A new article from my team looking at differences between sexes in autistic children. Really important to consider adaptive functioning, as well as autism characteristics when making diagnoses and recommendations.

You've sparked a fun conversation here - husband is suggesting a) Triumph Stag (as many others have) and the Karmann Ghia!
I'd say not needed in the abstract....
This systematic review found Enhanced Milieu Teaching (EMT) was more effective when implemented by caregivers than when implemented by therapists. So important that we partner with families in our work. #SLPeeps
Come back #minutecryptic! Missing doing this today, I've become mildly obsessed π€

Such a lovely way to start to wrap up the year! And a great choice of venue #usyd π§‘
Students asked why we weren't teaching about #GLP #NLA. I said we weren't aware of any evidence, but were committed to looking deeper. So we did! Read the full #SystematicReview here link.springer.com/article/10.1...

So much fun running Key Word Sign workshops for our graduating students! I'm so impressed with the skills and enthusiasm - especially when they have finished everything else and are ready to start brand new jobs. Photos from workshop number 3 out of 4, one more to go! #slp2b #USYD
