선생님 as a polite, somewhat neutral title for an adult you don’t know well
If you’d like to dive deeper into Korean language, culture, and everyday norms, knowkoreanculture.com is a great place to start
A lot of local Koreans just walk out with a nod, or say “안녕히 계세요/가세요,” sometimes nothing at all, especially in busy stores. Explicit “감사합니다” from the customer is less common, so to some ears it may sound a bit overly formal, stiff, or foreign. The cultural norms are just different.
When you enter a shop, they usually say “안녕하세요, 어서 오세요.” When you leave they might say “감사합니다, 안녕히 가세요.”
If you, as a customer, say “감사합니다” to a shopkeeper, people will still see it as polite and kind; it just may sound slightly unusual compared with what most Koreans would say in that situation.

Taegeuk is the red and blue circle in the middle of the Korean flag. It looks like 2 different shapes swirling together to make one whole circle. The Taegeuk also means that differences can create strength when they are respected in harmony.

Korean particles (이/가 을/를 은/는) are a must! They keep your meaning clear.
Example:
• 나는 한국을 사랑해요 (na-neun han-guk-eul sa-rang-hae-yo) — I love Korea 💜
• 나는 K-pop을 사랑해요 (na-neun K-pop-eul sa-rang-hae-yo) — I love K-pop 💜

나는 개를 쓰다듬어요
(naneun gaereul sseudadeumeoyo)
→ I pet the dog.
나 + 는 → I (subject)
개 + 를 → dog (object)
나를 개가 쓰다듬어요
(nareul gaega sseudadeumeoyo)
→ The dog pets me!
나 + 를 → me (object)
개 + 가 → dog (subject)
Same words, same verb.
Just swap particles → meaning FLIPS.

In Korean, tiny particles like 가/는 (subject/doer) and 를/을 (object/receiver) act like labels that flip sentence meanings. Word order & particles BOTH matter. Particles decide who's doing what, even if words switch places.
Watch the flip ⬇️

The difference:
2️⃣ 개가 나를 쓰다듬어요 → The dog pets me.
개 = dog | 가 = subject | 나 = me | 를 = object
