If you’re roughly my age, it’s wild to reflect on the optimism for the future Americans felt when Obama was elected — young Americans spontaneously took to the streets to celebrate! — and contrast with what we face today. The falloff over the past 18 years is hard to process.

Okay, my final election rant. Proceed with caution. I am not looking to debate, I only wish to give my stance and my final thoughts. Yes, Trump won. Yes, I voted for him. Yes, I think he will do a fine job as President. No, I did not vote for him because I did not want a woman President. No, I did not vote for him because I harbor anger because I was ruled over by a black man for eight years. No, I did not vote for him because I hate Mexicans. I am a pro-life Christian man and we are a home-schooling family. I am honestly pretty shocked by the number of posts I have seen, from many people I call friends, making some pretty disturbing statements. I have read a call to assassinate Trump. No lie, I have read it. That is crazy. I was certainly upset when Obama was elected because I felt McCain was ten times more qualified and was a center-leaning Republican. I never called for Obama to be killed. The other post I keep seeing is people talking about how they do not know how to address this with their own kids, or worse, their kids are afraid and or crying because of the results. Seriously? Many accuse Christians of brain-washing, but I can tell you this, my kids would have been just fine had Hillary won. You want to know why? Because I know how to talk to my kids and I know how to not instill fear in them. If your kids are crying, it is because of the things you have said either directly to them, or in their presence. Knock it off. Hug your kid and tell them about democracy and tell them there is a system in place that will protect them. Stop spreading fear. Did Republicans riot when Obama won? Nope. We formed organized groups like the Tea Party and others. I know each side has bad apples, but rioting is unacceptable. I honestly could not safely walk the streets of my own city without the fear of being attacked right now. Now that is real honest fear.
3) Immigration. Trump is not going to send all illegal immigrants back to Mexico as the media has been drilling into everyone's head. The government will target criminals. A wall, which may end up as just a more secure border, will indeed help reduce the number of illegal immigrates and criminals. When I say criminals, I am referring to both individual criminals and organized crime (drug cartels, human-trafficing, and the like). Hell, this was part of Bill Clinton's platform back in the day. I secure border is a good thing for both our security and economy. 4) Obamacare. This does not directly effect me, but this program has been bad since its infamously bad launch through to premiums doubling all over the U.S. Trump is proposing health saving accounts and other measurements and a slow faze-out of Obamacare. I am all for people controlling their own money and being able to spend it on their medical needs as they see fit. I wish Social Security worked something like this as well. 5) Education. Trump has said that the states should control their own schools and I agree. The Federal government has no place here and it should be a state issue. I would love to see a voucher program or tax relief for homeschooling families, but I am not holding my breath for that. The main point of this rant is to say to all my many liberal friends, that this is not the end of the world. Trump is not going to destroy America or send all Mexicans back. That is media BS. Look for Trump to try to clean up government, reduce taxes, secure our borders and interests, and to create jobs via fair trade and energy self-sufficiency. Will he get it all done? Likely not. Do not be wary, he will do just fine.
