The influence that the US has on global banking systems is insane. The bank I work for now has internal sanctions from Australia to Cuba because they have to adhere to some US laws and regulations. Compounded with stuff like FACTA which I'm p sure is now just a global standard

Also to an extent probably competing standards, and different regulations in different regions, etc etc.

I'm probably wrong but my guess is that it's that getting all of the infrastructure to build that out is Expensive and most banks, especially smaller ones, don't want to have to maintain that cost.

If it costs 150b to build it out, then 1.5b/y to maintain, but Visa offers it for 0.5b, I'd take that
