Our next game is Verminsteel!
You're a bird with a broadsword, kicking thousands of fascists so hard they fly into the sun
PLEASE go wishlist it, it'll make me really happy and help me stop low-key panicking and stuff: store.steampowered.com/app/4352280/... #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev
You would think it's solved, but harddrive prices are soaring due to supply issues due to AI, so people will be settling for smaller harddrives in the near future. Cynically, this is Microsoft creating a solution for a problem they are creating.
Thereβs definitely a cool aesthetic component to pre-renders that real-time assets struggle to replicate, but I think it takes an exceptional art director to properly leverage it. 90βs Square knew exactly what they were doing with their lighting, cameras, and scene setting.
The third one gets straight to the meat (sorry) of the game. It's very evocative - maybe too much for Steam's guidelines - but it's great at grabbing attention and selling what the game involves.
There used to be a creative ecosystem of people making little games and bots with proc gen writing, but itβs been silent lately presumably because it feels too close to LLMs, even if the underlying technology is unrelated.
A section of the Bayeux tapestry featuring an armoured man on a horse wielding a club. Latin text reads , βHIC ODO EP[ISCOPU]S BACULU[M] TENENS CONFORTAT PUEROS ("Here Bishop Odo, holding a club, gives strength to the boys")β
I never watched Star Trek DS9, so each time one of you posts about βOdoβ I just assume youβre talking about Bishop Odo of Bayeux, who asserted that it was wrong for clerics to spill blood, so he used a bludgeoning club instead.
An illustration of a pink dog with a tuft of hair, oversized collar, and silly tongue-out expression.
Iβm playing Chrono Cross for the first time. Iβm playing without a guide because I just know itβll say things like, βyeah, you missed your chance to recruit the sentient pink dogβ, and obviously I canβt handle that level of guilt.
Verm in summer with his godly weapon
Lance telling Verm "But we have each other's backs". My interpretation on how the scene went
I have to scan my sketchbook because since I've started playing my pages are FILLED with silly traumatized rodents. I want to make a godly fanart someday, but in the meantime:
The biggest little brother
So I played this cool little rpg called Small Saga. And it has some amazing characters. So naturally, I went and got some art of a few!
Introducing Gwenllia of White Hall, as well as Lamia the peerless!
Gwen quickly and thoroughly became my favorite of the cast. And Lamia has such a killer smile~
Youtube banned this so it here now.
Just realised this concept album will hit hard for Brits and not at all for anyone else, but explaining the brand identity of supermarket chain Morrisons is practically impossible.
A screenshot from Vinted of a pair of Mary Jane shoes stylised like Furbys. They are fluffy, white and pink, and feature Furby faces on the front.
A screenshot from Vinted of womenβs Chelsea boots. They are white and feature an illustration of wolves upon bloodied roses.
In The World Ends With You, clothing has a "bravery" stat. If a character lacks bravery, they are unable to wear the best equipment the game has to offer.
So at some point the stair parallax turned off, giving the illusion of a slope. But we didnβt notice elements of the scene judder or drift, and the player character didnβt change speed. Thatβs fiddly to implement and so subtle that it hardly seems worth it. But it makes the stair height feel real!
You see how some parts of the scene move faster than others? Thatβs parallax. It gives the impression of closeness to the camera.
When the character is at the top of the stairs, the stairs have more parallax than the above floor. When the character reaches the bottom, the stairs have no parallax.
Relatedly, do you have any writing or thoughts about RenPy-style VNs on mobile platforms? Thereβs an ecosystem of people who play mobile otomes, but my impression is thatβs its own beast.
This transition is so subtle that most players wonβt even notice it, but so technically impressive that pixel artists will be running back and forth to figure out how it works.

Every video of this game showcases a pixel art technique thatβs generally seen as too much trouble for what itβs worth. The results pay off - the game looks great - but it also leaves every other pixel artist sweating with fear.
It's time. Perfect Tides: Station to Station is out on PC and Mac.

You say itβs not horror, but the memory of feeding those giant slug creatures has been lurking in the back of my mind for 30 years and this screenshot just unearthed it.

It's more because the original engine (Construct) can't export console-readable code but the new engine (Unity) can. It is a good opportunity to fix up old problems though.
The porting devs previously did this with Aviary Attorney, so this ain't their first rodeo.
Yes. It'll be the same version on both consoles.
I'll do a proper announcement later, but developers Kevin and Leo are doing a wonderful job of getting the game console-ready by *checks notes* re-making the whole game from the ground-up.
I'm going to give Small Saga a little discount for AGDQ, but if you would prefer to play it on the Switch and want to know how long you'll have to wait until that version is out, the answer is "about 3 months". π
