#OnePlaceWednesday spent writing about C19 technological disruption (railways) while battling C21 technological disruption (printers) - both needed intervention. Had a stand-off with an HP Envy and pulled its miserable & begrudging plug out. Sorted. π #Licentiate #Thesis
π€£ Thanks for your support Andrew! As long as no one alters my timetable and leaves stay off the line. π€π

I agree. Our feral farm cat didnβt respond well to domestic life. Jessie lived in our Christmas tree like some oversized, sprawling decoration. She ran up the curtains until she reached the top & hung there till rescued. Biting my Nanaβs ankles while gripping on was a lesson in self defence!
So comical. π» I used to tempt mine by wiggling a knitting needle under the rug. Amused me for ages watching them launch across a polished floor and under the rug. Happy #Caturday too.
Big roof energy! Iβll say!

This account shares research from an ongoing #OnePlaceStudy of #Rillington #Scampston, exploring how national change shaped ordinary lives in the mid C19. Through records, land & family history, it traces continuity, disruption, & resilience at a local level. History often hides in plain sight.

Masterful!
Re wills price hike: Iβve hit the ground running. Had all the wills for my Dunster #OnePlaceStudy but not #Sudbourne. Iβve filtered by age the 1858+ burials from my spreadsheet, deleted the under 18s & now searching for the remaining 300+ individuals in the National Probate Index

Highlighting the fantastic work of Joe Saunders and his strong case for using title deeds for *everything*! If youβre working on a village history (like me, in the parish of #Rillington and its chapelry of Scampston), youβll find this especially relevant. #OnePlaceWednesday
Two very different memorials about the same man. Dr John Simpson, later Hudleston, was a major landowner in #Rillington & also the man behind the infamous #Knaresborough Castle Yard Riot of 1865β6.
Left his mark in both places Iβve called home. Was he always calling out to me? #OnePlaceWednesday

Starbeck used to be an important junction with heavy goods traffic from the North to Leeds with 40 passenger trains daily. The locomotive shed built in 1857 was extended to become the longest two-track engine shed in Britain. It was a major influence for the rising village of Starbeck. #Railway200
Photo of a view from a churchyard (part of a gravestone can be seen near the bottom left corner), across sheep pasture (with ewes and lambs) and over a strip of water to more fields beyond. There are plenty of trees in this view, around the edge of the lake and beyond.
#31DaysOfGraves Day 22: Landscape. The churchyard of St Maryβs in my local #OnePlaceStudy sits within the lovely landscaped parkland of Fawsley, which although not created by βCapabilityβ Brown was later worked on by him. Here we look Southeast across part of Big Waters lake. #OnePlaceWednesday
Every now a then a previously unknown book surfaces thatβs exactly whatβs needed for my #IHGSLicentiate research. This could not be more timely as landowners played a vital part in the mid C19 during the coming of the railway. Lucky me! @ihgs.bsky.social #Rillington #OnePlaceWednesday #LocalHistory
