The picture shows a breathtaking winter landscape at sunrise or sunset. The main focus is on a snow-covered, gently rising hilltop in the foreground, which is covered with a thick layer of fresh powder snow. Behind this hill stretches a forest of snow-covered conifers growing at different heights and densities. The trees are bathed in deep blues and whites, with the snow adding an almost surreal texture to their branches and twigs. A wide, flat plain stretches out in the background, which also appears to be covered in a thin blanket of snow. A glowing sunrise or sunset can be seen on the horizon, its warm colors (oranges and yellows) contrasting with the cool blue of the sky and the snow-covered landscape. A diffuse blue sky forms the largest area of the background. Several airplane contrails crisscross the sky.
