Beyond her technical achievements, Dr Itunu Isewon was beloved for her warmth, mentorship and collaborative spirit. She trained and inspired a generation of African scientists, and was remembered by colleagues and students as generous with her time, energy and encouragement.

Within PGC Africa, Dr Isewon helped bridge cuttingβedge research and realβworld impact. She contributed to our translational science work, the Psychiatric Genomics Africa Portal, and led visionary tools like α»pα»lα»AI to make African neuropsychiatric science more accessible.

As a scientist, Dr Isewonβs work spanned computational biology, public health and human genetics. She brought expertise in computing, infectious disease genomics, machine learning and systems biology, and co-led major projects advancing genomic research in African populations.

The new year has brought mixed tidings to our community. Today we mourn the loss of one of our brightest and leading lights. PGC Africa is deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Dr Itunuoluwa βItunuβ Isewon, Senior Lecturer and pioneering bioinformatics researcher.
