Academia can feel very pointless during israel's genocide on Palestine and yet another US-backed imperialist onslaught on Iran – but reading the words of others is a reminder that each of us are not alone. And as Nora reminds us, hopefully we are in the "before of the revolution"

β€œAt a time when those of us who are most precariously positioned are being most aggressively targeted, our work must be informed by care, by collectivity, & by deep political clarity.”

Beautiful writing by @norajaber.bsky.social & @leilaullrich.bsky.social on resisting violence in academic spaces.

@norajaber.bsky.social & @leilaullrich.bsky.social reflect on being feminist fugitives.

We sometimes talk about how β€œgood” or β€œhelpful” migrants are when responding to racist politics. These sentiments might be well meaning but they just feed the idea that our worth as people is conditional on our usefulness. But we shouldn’t need to be hardworking or successful to be free from racism.

Great workshop on 'The Juridification of Justice' @lauterpachtcentre.bsky.social (@torkrever.bsky.social & @norajaber.bsky.social).

I argued that our concern should not be the degree to which justice becomes 'juridified', but which 'jus' –which understanding of law– guides our visions of justice.

Today’s topic for my course β€˜Law and Power in the Muslim World’ is on the coloniality of international law. I hope that one day this subject becomes outdated - a thing of a darker past. Today colonialism is alive and well and law’s entanglements with it are blatant.
