The term #borealization has been used in the marine realm - but what does it look like in terrestrial environments? Check out the last @nordborn.bsky.social paper in Environmental Research Letters @ioppublishing.bsky.social

By developing the first multispecies NIRS-based open-source model to quantify faecal nutrient concentrations in different herbivore species in the Icelandic tundra, we take an important step towards affordable, standardised monitoring and new insights into Arctic nutrient cycling.

πŸ”¬ We scanned 300+ faecal samples and calibrated a NIRS model.
We found big differences between species and over the growing season.

Despite their small size, we found that geese contributed the most nutrients to the ecosystem, thanks to their large numbers & high defecation rates...

🦌🦒🌿How do tundra herbivores shape nutrient cycles?

We developed the first multispecies NIRS-based open-source model to quantify nitrogen, phosphorus & carbon in faeces of tundra herbivores in Iceland (geese, reindeer, sheep).

🌸Plant diversity dynamics over space and time in a warming Arctic 🌸

Our new study @nature.com analysed plant diversity change in >2000 tundra plots over 4 decades. We found that plants changed unevenly, mostly driven by warming and biotic interactions.
