The thing is that my glasses are for mild myopia and I can't read with them on. I don't do a lot of outdoor reading, but when I do I guess I usually sit in the shade.

I stopped wearing sunglasses when I got glasses. I did dig out an old pair, but the lenses were trashed.

It's 70 out so I thought I would sit outside and read, but the light reflecting off the page was unbearable. It probably doesn't help that I've been living like a mole person for the better part of a year.

Now that it's gotten cold, Junior and Blizzard have started doing cute snuggles. Poor Fluffy is the third wheel.

In 2016, Jane Goodall spoke at the International Primatological Society meetings. She closed her talk asking everyone to thank the primates we studied not with applause, but with their calls. And so a room full of Very Eminent Primatologists made delighted monkey noises to Jane Goodall. โšฑ๏ธ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿงช๐ŸŒ

I had everyone's foxy childhood crush on mine.

I think it's swords you're supposed to throw into lakes. Perhaps you can trade.

I'm in for a breast exam and the gown they gave me is so small that if I pull it tight I'm still bare from nipple to nipple.

Saw this unfamiliar but dapper-looking beetle when harvesting catnip to dry. inaturalist pegged it as a burning blister beetle, which doesn't sound like a bug to mess with. I looked it up and they do blister your skin and you absolutely do not want to eat them. Horses have died from eating too many.

I went out with a flashlight to pick raspberries for my cheesecake and immediately got dive-bombed by moths. Worth it, but I don't think I'm going to make a habit of midnight gardening.

A baby raccoon just honked threateningly at me. Really didn't expect him to make that sound or be that determined to get at the cat food.

Native Plants for Urban Balconies - Wild Ones: Native Plants, Natural Landscapes Wild Ones: Native Plants, Natural Landscapes promotes environmentally sound landscaping practices to preserve biodiversity through the preservation, restoration and establishment of native plant commu...

I just came across this article the other day. It's for Chicago, so idk if any of these species will be native for you, but it's got good info on pots and soil, and maybe you can find something similar for your new area. wildones.org/native-plant...

If it helps, a lot of native plants, ones that don't have a taproot, will do just fine being moved, even over and over again. It's work, but it takes experience growing a plant to maturity to figure out where it's going to look and grow well.

Consider renting a sod cutter. A manual one is cheap but incredibly hard work. Gas-powered one is more expensive, but it's easier than digging up grass with a shovel and much faster than killing your grass by smothering it.

#flowerreport is a thing, but you should start #pollinatorreport and get people talking about what's buzzing. For me it's the borage^ and very last blooms of the baptisia*.

Illinois Wildflowers

illinoiswildflowers.info is great for Illinois. I also check the range maps on prairiemoon.com. If you want something that will return a result for non-natives, too, there's missouribotanicalgarden.org
