I often use methyl green and excite with 633 laser instead if on fixed cells, if I don't have any other far red dye on that channel. I really hate how broad DAPI's emission spectrum is!

Introduction to CellProfiler - by a biologist, for biologists! YouTube video by CellMorphoJSero

If you or your trainees are just getting started with image analysis of cells & are #CellProfiler -curious, here is a fairly thorough walk-through demo I did recently. Loading files, extracting metadata (fun with Regex!), identifying objects, measuring, filtering, QC, exporting:

Even if HPV only caused cancer in people with cervixes, it would be essential to vaccinate people without cervixes because they can carry and spread the virus. You don't control infectious diseases by only vaccinating the people who might die, you control them by vaccinating everyone.

Always shocking to see these kinds of data collected together. "[publishers made]US$12 billion in profits between 2019 and 2024" - That's $12 billion diverted away from actual research or materially supporting the community - these are disgusting numbers.

If you're a scientist our journalist writing a piece about Watson and his "complex and nuanced character", you're deliberately ignoring the fact that his views made him one of the most extreme racist and sexist scientific "leaders" of his time.

I've heard it called a "pedigree" before at conferences and the whole idea of it makes me sad to be honest. We're supposed to be smart people, you would think we would know better!

Besides the fact that "unfunded" research often yields the greatest breakthroughs and generates necessary preliminary results for "funded" research, this idea is analogous to the FA proposing to cease supporting football outside the Premier League. Chip away at a pyramid and the pinnacle also sinks.

Application of the DNA-Specific Stain Methyl Green in the Fluorescent Labeling of Embryos Methyl green has long been known as a histological stain with a specific affinity for DNA, although its fluorescent properties have remained unexplored until recently. In this article, we illustrate t...

The dye is a pain to prepare with serial extraction in chloroform but once you've done it, you'll have enough for several lifetimes!

Honestly I'm really loving methyl green. You don't have to use much, it's really bright and you can excite it with 633nm laser so it doesn't bleed through into 488 as badly as DAPI can
