Granted, I didn’t read the novel, but he’s a lothario and she’s such a dick to everyone. Not in the traditional “your outfit’s ugly” sort of way, but in the “go hook up with Heathcliff so he can completely wreck you and see if I care” sort of way.
What are you talking about, the ONLY villainous/undesirable characters? Heathcliff & Cathy are total assholes, terrible people. Nelly does something to hurt Cathy AFTER Cathy cruelly disregards her by saying nobody has ever loved her. Edgar doesn’t do anything to anyone — he’s just simping on Cathy.
