Wide horizontal oil painting. Centered figure from the torso up, head tilted back, mouth open as if speaking or calling out. They wear large round steam-punk goggles with pink-blue reflections, a dark choker, and a loose robe in patchy warm colors (orange, pink, mauve, ochre) over a darker top. Both arms stretch outward across the full width; the left hand on the far left is vivid warm red-orange, fingers splayed, while the right hand near the right edge is cooler and less detailed. Background is mostly turquoise/teal with abstract blocky shapes and shadow-like silhouettes; a tall pale vertical shape behind the head reads as a beam or opening (a kind of limen—threshold). On the far right, darker purple and black shapes crowd the edge, increasing contrast.

A close-up oil painting on linen by Cornelia Es Said titled Still A Voice (2025), part of her series Generation Courage. The composition shows a woman’s face framed tightly by three hands. Two of them seem to be her own, pressing against her cheeks and pulling her eyelids open, while a third hand — ambiguously belonging to another person or to her doubled self — crosses the others, accentuating the tension. Her green eyes, rendered with sharp precision, stare directly at the viewer with a mix of exhaustion, clarity, and defiance. The mouth is slightly parted but silent, its red tones echoing the warmth of her skin.

The color palette is expressive and layered: cool violets, greys, and muted turquoise tones contrast with the earthy oranges, ochres, and pinks of the flesh. The paint surface is visibly textured, showing brushstrokes, impasto, and areas of scraping that reveal hints of an earlier layer of handwritten text beneath — faintly legible words like “voice,” “truth,” and “insane” emerge through the paint, as if half-erased graffiti or memory fragments.

The background is rough and atmospheric, suggesting plaster or worn stone, while the light falls evenly from above, illuminating the forehead and fingertips. The hands form an almost mask-like frame — part protection, part exposure — conveying both self-restraint and insistence on seeing. The overall mood is tense yet luminous, oscillating between psychological vulnerability and resilience. The painting captures a moment of resistance against despair — a determination to remain aware, to speak, to see, even when silence would be easier.

Abstraktes, vielschichtiges Gemälde mit dem Titel 'Why This Result?' (100x100 cm) in Mixed Media.
