Ocean heat forced West Antarctic Ice Sheet retreat after the Last Glacial Maximum - Nature Communications Amundsen Sea records show warm Circumpolar Deep Water drove major West Antarctic Ice Sheet retreat from 18,000–10,000 years ago. Subsequent cooling stabilized the grounding line, indicating ocean heat...

πŸ§ͺ🌊🧡 Great to see this published. An 18,000 year record of deep water temperatures on the Amundsen Sea continental shelf, which confirms that incursion of warm water onto the shelf has been the main driver of West Antarctic Ice Sheet retreat throughout deglaciation.

I think all of the discussion is going to discourage some people from voting. It’s already working.

I don’t know why everyone is so surprised by this. Look at the data from past elections.

Translate? We’re dealing with voter suppression and gerrymandered states.

A not-completely-exhaustive illustration of our winter shorebirds, but these are the species that you’re most likely to see during winter around Teesmouth (northeast England).

Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientistβ€”because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Swept away.

A mating pair of predatory sea slugs (Navanax inermis) gets interrupted by strong swell, tearing apart their mating attempt.

Most sea slugs are hermaphrodites and they fertilize each other at the same time. It doesn't always work out.

Deeper, deeper, I told we need to go deeper!

Close up photo of 4 mature slime mold sporangia. Each bright red sporangium consists of a short, thin stalk attached to a small cup from which a tubular, cotton candy-like spore mass protrudes. They are attached to dark coloured dead wood. The fuzzy photo background is mainly light green.

Why I Have to Conduct Raccoon Research in a Bikini #science #animals YouTube video by Lochnessofficial

A biologist researching raccoon-human interactions in Cozumel gets hassled by tourists if she wears work clothes that disrupt their vacation fantasy mindset, so she does her science in a bikini (this scenario sorely needs a human behaviorist observing the tourists observing her observing raccoons) 🦝
