The town where I grew up on Long Island is split between Suozzi’s district 3 and Gillen’s district 4. They are two of the seven. Been asking all my friends and family to call their offices. Makes me even more angry that the reps from my former county are assisting in terrorizing my current home.

My hometown straddles NY Districts 3 & 4. Reps Tom Suozzi and Laura Gillen are two of the seven House Dems who voted in favor of the budget.
I asked my family to call Gillen’s office to express their anger. It feels futile, but if friends in Nassau County see this, please help. MN thanks you. ❤️

Black background with the Wonderwall logo (a sky blue scarf in the shape of a W) at the top and a blue line below it. Below that header is white text reading:
Wonderwall stands with every single person opposing the ICE occupation of our state, the oppression of our communities,
and the abduction of our people.
In the week since Renee Nicole Good was murdered, Minnesotans have stood extraordinarily tall in defense of
their communities against the mindless thuggery of ICE.
In spite of ICE’s open hostility, we have seen people put everything on the line to keep the state’s most vulnerable away from the fascist forces that should never have been here.
Your action has not gone unnoticed.
We will support you as long as we breathe.
If you haven’t gotten involved yet, the time is now:
You are needed.
Evocatively and unequivocally: FUCK ICE; Be Good
The Wonderwall Collective
In case our position wasn’t abundantly clear:
If you stand with ICE, you don’t stand with us.
If you want to help, here’s a great list of resources: linktr.ee/mplsmutualaid

Map shows reports of ICE activity in and around the Twin Cities on Sunday alone. Los Angeles and New York shown for comparison.
This particular resource may be less utilized in other cities, but it’s clear that Minnesotans are not afraid to continue documenting the actions of these thugs.

I will miss chanting "He's just cold!" in 90° weather. Now it's going to be appropriate all season long.

Graph of average high and low temperatures from November through March in Saint Paul, Minnesota; and Montreal, Quebec. The average temperatures are closely aligned. Montreal is slightly warmer in November and December, but slightly colder from mid-January through March.
Both cities experience average low temperatures below 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 degrees Celsius) from mid-November until the end of March.
The average high temperature in both cities remains below freezing from approximately the start of December through the end of February.
Thanks for the correction. An article about Stade Saputo had referenced the heated, irrigated hybrid field... at BMO.
Saint Paul is a bit colder than Montreal in Nov/Dec and a bit warmer in Feb/Mar. Both cities average sub-0°C lows from mid-Nov through Mar and sub-0°C highs from Dec through Feb.

Grass: Minnesota, Toronto, Montreal, Colorado, and Chicago have heated fields. RSL doesn't.
Turf: VAN and NE have heating systems, POR and SEA do not.
So RSL would likely need the biggest stadium upgrades. Maybe RBNY as well. And many of these teams will need to overhaul their practice facilities.

The USMNT hosted Honduras at Allianz Field in February of 2022. It was 3°F with a -16° wind chill. Hopefully, they limit those situations by scheduling the northern teams to play mainly in warmer climates in Feb/Mar, but I'd hate to go 3 months in the middle of the season without a home match.

I’m a transplant from NY, but the main thing I’ve learned about being a MN sports fan in the last 9 years is that we are ALWAYS nervous, especially when our teams are playing well.

HAPPY PRIDE MONTH EVERYONE! Despite horrendous attacks on the LGTBQ+ community coming from the right wing, we choose to celebrate our queer friends, family members, and neighbors for who they are. We won't be cowed into tolerating rank bigotry. WE shape our communities, and you are welcome here!

Love this one too. Hang it in the Louvre, or frame it for Beckham’s office.

Becoming a common sight for Minnesota fans this season. This is the chart from the Miami match, which was a 4-1 victory for the Loons despite having only 27% possession.

I’m rooting for the earthquakes. I hope the San Andreas runs right through Dignity Health Sports Park.
As much as I hate LA for recent reasons, I am also an NYCFC fan, so my dislike of energy drinks runs deeper.

Labels get tossed about (indie pop/rock, Midwest emo, art rock, post-rock, electronic) but all have a non-zero amount of “math rock” defined by my friends as “weird music shit that Ryan geeks out on”.

Drawing of a tombstone which reads “Everything Was Beautiful And Nothing Hurt” from the 1969 novel Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut.
Coming from the sarcastic mind of Kurt Vonnegut, I imagine this to be the same sentiment.

Jetting off to New York to see A Great Big Pile Of Leaves play their first show in 8 years. Midwest emo from Connecticut at the old Northsix in Williamsburg.
Just learned that they have a Minnesota connection. The late great Ed Ackerson produced their 2013 album “You’re Always On My Mind”.

Loons Path to 2nd or 9th or 13th
Path to 2nd Place
Because... of course Colorado can win out
And... for the sake of GD, this assumes all Wins are by 3 goal margins :-p
Rank,Club,Points,GP,W,GD,Game 31,Game 32,Game 33,Decision Day,C...
Here's where my brain is at. Scenarios in which the Loons end up in 2nd, in 9th, or in 13th place. I'd rather not disclose which one feels most likely to me.

The Western Conference is so tight that the Loons can *mathematically* still end up anywhere from 2nd to 13th. Would be overjoyed with 9th at this point.

Perhaps I’ll design an “American Gods” themed scarf and make it 45 Loons fans.

Becoming invested in Minnesota sports made it more difficult, but today marks one year since my last drink.
It was a barrel-aged barleywine I had saved for a special occasion. My 1961 Château Cheval Blanc moment - though I didn’t use a styrofoam cup. Just swigged a bit and poured it down the drain.
