Writing about illusionism while listening Chopin π
This status made my day.
I love the name of the paper!
As a philosopher of consciousness and artificial intelligence, I have found it hard to know where you belong, as Dennett also noted. In scientific circles, and even in other social sciences, I am seen as too philosophical, and in philosophy as too much of a science "fan". Sometimes, it is not easy.
I think that self-models are dynamic, so that means that not only interaction with oneself, but also with the environment and other people is important for their development.
Why do you think this is a high requirement ?
I'm a functionalist, but I'm not dogmatic about it. I consider the possibility that artificial intelligence will not evolve an illusion. And even as a functionalist, you can assume that if AI had developed self-models, if it had a different functional organization, the illusion would be different.
I also don't think an AI could develop such an illusion on its own, for that it would have to have self-models and it would have to interact with its environment and its kind, since self-models are dynamic.
I think that even if we tried to simulate or construct processes neccesary for an illusion in AI, it wouldn't be of the same nature, and perhaps wouldn't even have the same function, as it does in humans.
I'm delighted that I've presented at the ICCS "AI and Sentience" conference in Heraklion. I met such an amazing & inspiring people. I hope to experience more conferences like this in the future. I am grateful to Nick Humphrey, @keithfrankish.bsky.social, KINIT, and others for this opportunity.
I am, and I've arrived exactly tonight. I look forward to meeting all the people. I am soo humbled to be there.
Hm, 95.
ChatGPT group "underperformed at neural, linguistic, and behavioral levels" with "weaker neural connectivity and under-engagement." The Google-assisted group had "moderate" neural engagement. The "brain-only" group exhibited the strongest cognitive metrics throughout.

Congratulations, Keith ! Is there some way that I could access the paper ?

If the illusion of PC had an adaptive function for humans, and other animals (e.g. for attention control), it is possible that in the case of AI such an illusion would be weaker, if any, because AI doesn't necessarily need simplified models of its own processes to function more efficiently as we do.
I know this feeling.

Question: Are there any good papers or interviews where Daniel Dennett expressed his opinions about embodied cognition ?
Complex neural circuits likely arose independently in birds and mammals, suggesting that vertebrates evolved intelligence multiple times. www.wired.com/story/intell...
Thank you so much :)
Hello, that sounds amazing, but link does not work, unfortunately :/
The newest and most powerful A.I. technologies β so-called reasoning systems from companies like OpenAI, Google and the Chinese start-up DeepSeek β are generating more errors, not fewer. As their math skills have notably improved, their handle on facts has gotten shakier.
I love the pig ! I think I have the similar (if not same).
Hi, can I ask if there is a video recording somewhere ? I would be very grateful.
I am starting to more and more appreciate Dennett's idea of "competence without comprehension" in regards to AI - AI will be even more compentent, but will probably not evolve comprehension (and consciousness as a user-illusion) as humans especially because of no cultural embedding.
