Senate Democrats just passed $40M in Emergency Rent Assistance to keep Minnesotans in their homes. Image of MN Capitol dome with the MN state flag. Date: 3/10/2026
Minnesotans are facing an unprecedented housing affordability crisis at the same time as the federal government occupied and terrorized our communities.
This emergency rent assistance bill ensures our neighborsβfamilies, seniors, and childrenβhave the stability they need to stay in their homes.
Senate Republicans just tried to cut rent assistance from families if ANYONE in their household was even charged with a crime. Children need a roof over their head and shouldn't be punished for the actions of adults.
Minnesota families are facing a housing affordability crisis. Rent and housing costs have reached historic highs, while the cost of things like food, gas, and healthcare keep climbing. And the federal government is to blame.
Senator Port (DFL-Burnsville) is the author of this bill and has given her opening remarks on the floor. Here's a clip:
TODAY: The Minnesota Senate will vote on a bill to provide one-time emergency rental and utility assistance. Minnesota is currently seeing more evictions than ever before, and if we donβt act urgently Minnesotans will lose their homes.

Happy International Women's Day! Our Senators are working every day to support all women and their wellbeing. Here's a snapshot π
When Trump and Republicans want to talk about stopping fraud, they should look in the mirror.
When Kristi Noem is fired AND it's Puppy Day at the Capitol βΊοΈ
This is the beginning of Kristi Noem's accountability, not the end.
Let's increase penalties for those who intimidate or interfere with our voting process. While Republicans are trying to undermine our democracy, Senators like @senbonniewestlin.bsky.social won't let partisan actors weaken our nation-leading election system.
Weβre joining Minnesotans tonight in mourning the loss of Sgt. First Class Nicole Amor.
We will not forget her service and sacrifice, and our hearts go out to her family and friends following this heartbreaking tragedy.

We look forward to hearing suggestions from Republicans to make college more affordable for Minnesotans. We aren't going to do this.
Minnesota Senate Republicans who want to create a statue of Charlie Kirk don't even vote for bills to fund basic needs like wastewater treatment, filling potholes, or replacing lead pipes? Talk about priorities.
Trump and Republican cuts to healthcare will take away insurance from millions, close hospitals, and defund emergency care.
As Minnesotans are paying more at the gas pump, Minnesota Republicans are fawning over the Trump Administration.
Corporate profits are at record highs. Working families? Not so much.
Weβve kept our stateβs budget stable by investing in people. But now, federal chaos is pushing costs onto Minnesota families and counties.
Weβll keep standing up for Minnesotans, not the ultra-rich.
Happy Womenβs History Month! Letβs celebrate all the incredible women Senators in the Senate DFL Caucus who fight for progress, equality, and a better future for all Minnesotans π
Happy Black History Month! Every February, we celebrate and honor the history, achievements, and legacy of Black Americans. Senator Oumou Verbeten is a proud Fulani and Senegalese woman, and she is one of the first Black women to serve in the Minnesota Senate. #BlackHistoryMonth
Our bill requiring presidential candidates affirm their candidacy meets the requirements of the US Constitution was heard this week. Every Republican Senator voted no. #nothirdterms
Minnesota is stable because we planned well. But while corporate profits soar, families are getting squeezed.
Weβll keep working to defend Minnesotans from chaos in Washington.

Today, the families and friends of Annunciation School students gathered at the Capitol to sing songs of hope and call for action to prevent gun violence.
Maj. Leader Erin Murphy: βI donβt want to live in a place where authorities think their responsibilities include shooting people, but donβt include helping the wounded or dying, even and especially if theyβre the ones who caused it.β

The federal government is trying to decimate our state and Republicans are clapping for it.
Theyβre cutting everything and giving us peanuts. Republicans should stop clapping for peanuts!
Trump Tariffs Loss Should Help Minnesota "With tariffs already costing the average household more than $1,000 over the past year, I am hopeful that this ruling will provide some relief for our economy as well as a check on this President's power. Unfortunately Trump is already doubling down and threatening further tariffs, and more uncertainty as Minnesotans unwind the mess he has already caused." MAJORITY LEADER ERIN MURPHY
Trumpβs loss at the Supreme Court on tariffs is good for Minnesotans, who have lost an extra $1000 this past year thanks to this unconstitutional stunt. But, heβs already threatening more.
The effects of the Trump Administration are devastating. They are destroying Minnesota's infrastructure and giving us peanuts. And Minnesota Republicans are clapping for it.
