Not sure I follow that argument.
I don't exclude the narrow slice from Christianity. I say their Christianity has been warped, more than most, by demagogues manipulating them and by their desire for safety through power.
No one gets it exactly right, which is why our values don't apply to the past.
Also, I don't think I said that politics = governance. You are talking about government action, and I am talking about public-sphere discussion by which government decides what to do.
Example: abolition began within faith groups, which influenced public thought, until consensus moved govt to act.
I didn't say mediating differences in belief systems; I said mediating differences.
If my morals say "don't kill" and yours say "don't murder," the public sphere can take both ideas and arrive at agreement on what works best in society and can be expressed/enforced in law.
And no one even has to know the source of a moral stance, whether it is religious, or legal, or ethical, or derived from sci-fi.
This is how religion has properly functioned in American discourse since America began. Failures to reach that standard are failures but don't invalidate the process.
Religious liberty is derived from religious belief, according to Rabbi Jonathan Sacks - historically, not abstractly. Faith communities are where the idea comes from.
And no one is trying to jam anything anywhere. Religious tenets have as much validity in public discourse as any other moral stand.
I would argue, it is necessarily *not* in the US national interest, in any way. His dynastic interest is always contrary to constitutional order and coherent, mutually beneficial, foreign policy and trade.

There is equally no way to prove there is not a god, so faith-based stands in the public service sphere belong as much as any. And mediating differences is what politics is all about.
I don't think you'd like the world you'd create if all believers of all types were excluded from public service.
Since we cannot know how ancient believers would have written the story if the sacrifice had gone through, it's hard to assume we know everything about their understanding of it.
Either way we don't get to impose 21st C. standards on BCE times & behaviors.
