US to release 172 million barrels of oil from strategic petroleum reserve The U.S. will release 172 million barrels of oil from its strategic ‌petroleum reserve in a bid to reduce oil prices that have soared due to supply shocks from the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran, U.S. Ene...

This is fucking rich. Remember when Republicans beat up on Biden for releasing oil from the strategic petroleum reserve to combat high gasoline prices caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine?

It was the right thing to do in 2022.

Today? This is Trump's mess.

It could have been an accident, sure. We will see when we get the full investigation.

Does a regime that routinely commits war crimes and whose top military leader expresses contempt for rules of engagement deserve the benefit of the doubt on this?

This is funny to me because my 15-year old is listening to the album in that photo, psychedelic cumbia, afrobeat, and Ethiopian jazz and gets made fun of by kids listening to - I kid you not - Rob Zombie.

Gen Z found the worst of the 1990s.

Thank you for covering these meetings. I know covering public processes is a thankless task but somebody needs to do it and the rest of us are better informed because you do.

A lot of what passes for #journalism in America today is a combination of entertainment and propaganda.

Real journalists question power and make people in power uncomfortable. We need more of this. Thank you @elizlanders.bsky.social.

"Something very tragic happens" - nice use of the passive voice to obscure the responsibility of those in the chain of command who did this.

Intentionally bombing civilians is a war crime.

One thing I've been stressing is that, if Hormuz traffic remained stopped, the monumental oil supply shock will manifest as sharp price spikes in wealthy nations that sap disposable incomes

In poorer countries, the shock will manifest as outright physical shortages.

There is no real plan here. Just war crimes for the sake of war crimes.

11.03.2026 17:33 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

So let's see @schumer.senate.gov and the Dems actually do something about these war crimes instead of rolling over and playing dead.

People being more interested in discussing Graham Platner's former tattoos than what we do to stop enabling the war crimes being committed by Israel and the United States *right now* says a lot about the pathetic state of discourse on this site and on social media in general.

11.03.2026 17:14 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 1

Good point about interest in military history, but I am also interested in history (& military history) and had never heard of that particular symbol before this debate.

I have tattoos (none have political symbolism). Those on my upper body, covered by shirts, are not conversation subjects.

11.03.2026 17:04 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

Since when did Platner not show regret?

Also, I believe that Platner *does* strongly oppose our funding Israel's genocide in Gaza. Which is a genocide/ethnic cleansing that is going on right now.

I'm sure there are many other good Dem candidates for the US House who I'm not aware of (again 426 races); if you know any candidates who check the boxes of

1) support for democracy
2) support for clean energy deployment
3) oppose US complicity in genocide

and have a shot, let me know!

11.03.2026 16:59 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

Yeah I think it was a skull and crossbones and have never been convinced that Platner as a dumb kid was knowledgeable enough about Nazi iconography to get whatever-you-call-it.

Issues — Randy Villegas for Congress Randy Villegas is an educator, activist, and proud son of immigrants running for Congress in California’s 22nd District. Join the movement for bold, people-first leadership in the Central Valley.

An easier choice is @villegas4congress.bsky.social in CA-22.

Democracy: check
Climate: check
Anti-genocide: check

I think Villegas has a good shot at winning his district; I don't have to choose a less than ideal candidate because they are better positioned. /13

Wisconsin Dem recruit calls for U.S. to halt arms to Israel ‘I don't think that we should send more military aid to the Netanyahu government invasion,’ Rebecca Cooke said in video obtained by JI

Like Ossoff, Cooke is supported by J Street (not ideal), but she's also called for halting US arms sales to Israel.

On balance, I'll take it. /12

2026 House Election Interactive Map - 270toWin Who will control the Congress? Review and predict the outcome of the 435 House races in the midterm 2026 election.

The House is inherently harder as there are 416 races. Fortunately there are fewer close ones.

I choose to fund Rebecca Cooke in WI-3 because I think she has good odds of replacing the truly awful Derek Van Orden.

Democracy? check. Climate? Check. Genocide...?/11

Michigan? I really like Abdul El Sayed but he doesn't poll well against Republican candidate Mike Rogers. I definitely oppose @haleystevens.bsky.social, and @mallorymcmorrow.bsky.social is also too pro-Israel for me. So I'm prioritizing other races.

On to the House. /10

(I actually deleted my third donation to @marypeltola.com when I discovered her pro-Israel voting record, which is really a shame because I'd love to see Alaska elect a Democrat).

So why not fund the others? Roy Cooper's race in North Carolina is a big deal but Cooper has *plenty* of money. /9

Does Platner play up the blue-collar shtick? Sure. That's populism. Huey Long did the same thing and Louisiana got roads, bridges & LSU medical school, and the nation got social security, rural electrification and other 2nd New Deal goodies.

The tattoo? Give me a break. Bigger fish to fry people./8

2nd: @grahamformaine.bsky.social.

Democracy: check.
Climate: in theory, yes. Has taken some dumb positions like being anti-CECEC but I think it's fixable.
Anti-ethnic cleansing: check.

Many people on bsky hate Platner. I get some of it; some of it is his populist positioning. /7

(This is also why I never give $ to @electdemocrats.bsky.social).

And I prioritize close races.

The good news is that there are a lot of them, including for US Senate seats (tan in the graphic below). I am donating to 3 US Democratic US Senate candidates. /5

This is because #AIPAC and other pro-Israeli genocide orgs control the leadership of the #DemocraticParty (like @schumer.senate.gov) on these issues and fund many Dem candidates.

So you have to do some research. @trackaipac.com has been my go-to for figuring out who to fund/who not to fund. /4

For climate, any Democratic candidate is better than any Republican. I would almost make an exception for Jen Kiggans (R-VA) because she supports #offshorewind, but she still voted for the awful OBBBA that gutted clean energy incentives.

For ending US complicity in ethnic cleansing, its harder. /3

11.03.2026 15:59 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

1st: decide on your issues. Mine are democracy, climate, and ending US support for ethnic cleansing ops.

For democracy any democratic candidates except Cuellar (TX), Golden (ME), Glusenkamp-Perez (WA) etc. are better than any Republican except Massie (KY), per recent votes on funding ICE/DHS. /2

Allow yourself a break from the crisis of the hour to consider something important: funding candidates for the midterm elections.

I'm making modest recurring monthly donations to six Democratic candidates for US Congress. If you have the money you should too.

How do I decide who to fund? /1
