Hmmm... the dyslexia study seems underpowered at first glance.
Das ist echt frustrierend.
Today is International Mountain Day!πβ°οΈ It's a day to remember how important our mountains are to our planet. This year's theme is "Glaciers matter for water, food, and livelihood in mountains and beyond."
Below, enjoy some pictures from the beautiful mountains in Slovenia - the Julian Alps.
A total of 2,675 pre-K through Grade 1 children were represented in treatment groups and 2,578 in control groups for PA outcomes, and 1,495 and 1,315 children, respectively, for reading outcomes.
βWhat if the βsmall-medium-largeβ effect sizes we use in early literacy arenβt right for this field?
We derived empirical thresholds from recent PA meta-analyses.
Cohenβs cutoffs fit PA but overestimate reading by ~0.2 SD.
This matters for judging impact and powering trials.

An NIH grant I was on as a postdoc helped us understand why some children develop reading difficulties while others don't.
Our current NIH grant examines whether Spanish-speaking bilingual learners in πΊπΈ struggle with reading due to a reading disability or language differences btwn English&Spanish.
