Our department at Genentech is hiring. We're looking for a freshly-minted PhD (0-3 years) protein biochemist / structural biologist to join as a Sr Scientist. A rare opportunity to join our group leader job family at a more junior level than we usually hire.
π§ͺHelp needed!
I am currently gathering ideas for a new and updated Blender course tailored for chemists. Besides importing molecules into Blender, what topics or features would interest you the most?
Any input is highly appreciated π

I had Claude make this as a mini-game for Relay's disconnect screen (like Chrome's dinosaur), but then pivoted to stand-alone. In this game, you have to find Euler angles matching the target projection, i.e. cosplay RELION. It can be pretty hard. Works on mobile too! warpem.github.io/euler-hunt/

Looking forward to #BPS2026 in San Francisco?
Come by the NIH sponsored Transformative High-Resolution Cryo-Electron Microscopy National Centers for #CryoEM at booth 410.

I've been working on Surface Morphometrics for a new version (coming soon), and made some significant (AI-assisted) performance improvements, especially in pycurv (20-50x!). If you've had technical issues or just felt like it was too slow, give it another try! #teamtomo github.com/GrotjahnLab/...
Are you a cell biologist who secretly thinks cellular cryo-electron tomography is just George Palade-era EM, but fancier?
Join this webinar to see how modern #teamtomo has shifted from pretty pictures to quantitative, local membrane biology, and how that changes the questions we can ask.

Statement from Michael and Susan Pretti Parents of Alex Jeffrey Pretti βWe are heartbroken but also very angry. Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately, he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the βheroβ term lightly. However, his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trumpβs murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He had his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down, all while being pepper sprayed. Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you.

Curious about cryo-electron tomography but not sure how it fits into your research? This ASCB webinar with Danielle Grotjahn, Ph.D., breaks down what cryo-ET can do, where it shines, and how it works alongside other imaging methods.
Internship opportunity! @jackn.bsky.social and I have opened two Summer Intern positions at Genentech to build structural biology agents. If you are a (pre-PhD) #cryoEM or #Xray structural biologist with strong computational skills & motivation, please apply!
Interested in learning or strengthening skills in #CryoEM single particle analysis? Apply for the CSHL cryo-EM course happening in March! This is a super intense 2 week course covering theory up through data deposition. Apps due Jan 9! Info here: meetings.cshl.edu/courses.aspx...
Yet again it pays to speak up & fight back!

Calcium and magnesium in the pore of NMDA receptors!
Lipids play an unexpected role. The hydration shells of Ca2+ and Mg2+ could be the difference between permeation and block. So much physiology in the energetics of H2O.
