Just read the short story "Yellow Coal" by Sigizmund Krzhizhanovsky, in which a scientist invents a method of turning spite into electrical energy. It was written in 1939 but feels like a stinging critique of today's social media ecosystem.

Trash folk for new coastlines. New single out now: https://open.spotify.com/track/3vckpZ2lBDnonHnzogu5ze?si=7c731768a9594822 Forever searching for the thread that brings together Silly Wizard, The Specials, Bob Wills, Raymond Scott, and Minor Threat.

I'm loving this EP from CΓ©dric Dind-Lavoie. It's new orchestrations atop old recordings of Quebecois musicians. RIYL Disintegration Loops, The Caretaker, and the Ravenous soundtrack. youtu.be/eR-vSZTKgUg?...
I added some recent discoveries to my Forward Folk playlist. Check out tunes by KJELTRING, @counivers.bsky.social, Janick Martin trio, @sataniquesambatrio.bsky.social, and Psygnozo. open.spotify.com/playlist/5uf...
I'm kind of obsessed with this one: youtu.be/9sovfs2E5Xo?...
Well, that is unlikely and therefore humorous. Da ha, da ha.
Thanks for sharing. I've been interested lately in the tension between music based in traditions that are hundreds of years old and modern technology. It's like these melodies are so strong that they can punch through any technological barrier. But I get that it's not for everyone!

I just released another single in my series of Casio-inspired junky folk music. This time, I mangled a couple of English tunes: open.spotify.com/album/4OvmLZ...

I love that song! His performance in Urgh! was pretty great. Had no idea there was a documentary about him. Thanks for the heads up!
Haha! Baby's first pit and pendulum.
I've seen this one referred to as "Milk Crisis," which is a pretty great title.
I remember thinking this one was pretty entertaining: getupinthecool.fireside.fm/187
The Kaia Kater and Jake Blount are good, too, but you kind of can't go wrong with just jumping in anywhere.
In Defense of Ska is usually a good listen as well, especially when they interview folks not usually associated with the ska scene, like John Darnielle and David J.
Get Up in the Cool is a nice weekly dive into the many facets of contemporary American old time music. The host, a non-binary banjo player, is a great interviewer who's very funny and very into encouraging an open, inclusive scene, and the guests usually have cool stories and play a few great tunes.
Settling the Score has two hosts who discuss scores to classic films. It does get a bit into the weeds with theory and orchestration, but it's mostly a fun re-examination of classic films and the ways that the scores support the stories and emotional arcs. Jon and Andy have some pretty good banter.
Over the last 10 or 15 years, I kind of lost track of music coming out of Brittany, France. Anyone heard anything interesting from that region lately?
