Arguably the most important thing I may write in my career. After several years, the book finally is out. If any are interested in book talks, please feel free to reach out. Also, to academic friends, I'd appreciate you asking your university libraries to order a copy!

My latest book, Replaying the Second World War, is now officially out. I explain how Russia's instrumentalization of the history of WW2 dehumanizes Ukrainians while highlighting the many parallels, and direct connections, between WW2 and Russian actions today. www.ibidem.eu/en/Topics/So...

The European Parliament holds Russia and its allies entirely responsible for the war in Ukraine.

Today, Parliament adopted a resolution describing this war of aggression as a blatant violation of international law and the UN charter.

In addition, there are many great examples from Soviet history. To that end, my forthcoming book (out next week in Europe) covers the weaponization of food by Russia today through the lens of past famines, particularly the Famine of 1946-47 which also impacts the examples Boller mentions here.

Ah good - the propaganda machine keeps turning. Russia is reviving the non-credible claims of Ukraine developing WMDs again. The 2026 equivalent of chemical weapons labs.

I still remember watching it all unfold in real time four years ago. I remember refreshing Twitter constantly. I remember going to Google Maps and seeing a "traffic jam" leading from Belarus on a main road south to Kyiv. Four years have passed and Russian aggression continues to terrorize Ukraine.

Russia to demand legal codification of NATO’s non-expansion eastward β€” newspaper According to the newspaper, Moscow will also demand the revocation of the decisions of the 2008 Bucharest Summit

Continuing to restate demands that are non-starters. Again, nothing has meaningfully changed in how Russia views any peace process re: Ukraine. And while the US-led talks have led to meetings between both sides, there remains previous few details on actual progress. tass.com/politics/208...

OTD in 2022 Kremlin spokesman said "Russia has never attacked anyone in its history". Russia became the world's largest country by entirely peaceful means.

4 days later we invaded Ukraine.

I think that's part of it, but I also think the Trump administration trades in distractions from various crises. Whether it's effective is a different issue, but I would not be surprised if the Trump admin thinks this would matter for midterms.

If so, it confirms one item I've brought up in many public-facing pieces, which is that the Trump administration has emphasized the peace process because of its value to distracting the American public (pr benefitting them in light of other less popular policies). This doesn't lead to peace.

Russia's assault on women's reproductive rights is steamrolling ahead as lawmakers draft legislation requiring abortion-seekers to notify their husbands (and sometimes even ex-husbands) before terminating a pregnancy. Demographic panic becomes repressive insanity. sozd.duma.gov.ru/bill/1101102-8

Peace in Ukraine? Believe it when you see it, especially if Russian demands are prioritized Expectations for peace between Russia and Ukraine should be tempered until there’s a presidential summit between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin and until their signatures are on a treaty.

See my piece in the Conversation in November. Nothing has meaningfully changed: theconversation.com/peace-in-ukr...

Oh I don't expect it to lead to anything. That said Financial Times and Meduza suggesting something more firm has been agreed to: bsky.app/profile/chri.... Regardless, this assumes a ceasefire would be agreed to by Russia and I've been consistent in my analysis that this remains unlikely.
