TIRED: a $640 toilet seat
WIRED: "an astronomical amount of shellfish, including $2 million for Alaskan king crab and $6.9 million worth of lobster tail"
The Venezuelans who were denied due process by ICE, disappeared into an El Salvador jail, & who’ve now chosen to risk permanent detention by coming back here to prove their innocence, understand & love America way more than Trump ever will. 2day’s show.👇 podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t...
Once again: this is @davidjbier.bsky.social, of the [Even the Conservative...] @cato.org, an expert on immigration policy who has been providing data based expertise on the issue of immigration for a while now.
The way our @codepen.io 2.0 editor deals with npm packages is pretty cool.
1. Detect package usage
2. Create/edit `package.json` file to reflect needed packages
3. Inject an `<script type="importmap">` into any HTML produced by compiler
Here's using React in 53 seconds.
Epic rant by James Carville. I hope some day there is a reckoning over the insanity of this administration forcing us to take health advice from a man who sniffs cocaine from a toilet seat. www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_1L...
Progressive enhancement as a benefit of CSS Nesting
Something I knew is that in browser that support CSS nesting you can nest @media queries inside of other CSS declarations. What I only fully grasped a few days ago is how well this works for progressive enhancement.
The JSDoc compiler is insanely fast. It takes 0.00000s to compile my JavaScript app.
myth: LLM-assisted coding means everyone is forced to use The Popular Framework forever
reality: agents will happily migrate your entire app to The Good Framework
inertia is a powerful drug but we are entering a world without moats, plan accordingly

Story time: I recently asked Gemini to create a webapp to debug scroll-related events.
It generated an app that uses TypeScript, React and Tailwind. That was commit 1 of the project.
I kept asking it questions to remove the frameworks one-by-one. 4 commits later I had a working vanilla version.
Thank you for all your efforts 🙏
🎉 I'm so excited that scoped custom element registries is landing in Chrome and Edge! 🥳
This solves one of the biggest complaints with the web components APIs: the global tag name namespace.
Standards is a long game though: I first proposed this in 2017! 😲

Hey Joe Rogan, he lied. Trump lies as he breathes. I talk to folks every day who feel betrayed by him. And I tell em - I’m sorry he lied to you, but this is on you too bcuz you chose to believe a sociopath/pathological liar. And if you don’t call him out for lying, he’ll keep right on lying to you.
Trump options for bringing down oil prices "include restricting U.S. exports, intervening in oil futures markets, waiving some federal taxes and lifting requirements under a U.S. law called the Jones Act that domestic fuel move only on U.S.-flagged ships, among others"
#tc39 first class protocols proposal is fascinating.
very rust-y, traits like. really getting back to what made js so so damned good, return to a powerful complex prototypal inheritance.
seemingly a ton of momentum/contributirs. new to me but instant fast follow.

Protocols could solve runtime services / dep injection patterns! (eg swapping out implementation in test, using the protocol as the injection key)
He lies when it rains,
He lies about Spain.
He lies at night,
He lies mid flight.
He lies every afternoon,
He lies when he drops his spoon.
He lies sitting in a chair,
He lies while coloring his hair.
He lies about an economy on the skids,
He even lies about dead school kids.👇
I've been trying to swear less online. Long time since I've posted "motherfuckers"
This is an astounding and irresponsible and obvious lie by the Commander in Chief. This feels like another unthinkable red line crossed.
Jobs report uniformly weak: 92K jobs lost (with job losses in almost every industry), household survey employment down too, unemployment rate up to 4.4%, participation down, avg weekly hours flat.
Main sign in the other direction was strong wage growth.
This is not good.
It seems we can now customize the select element, right? right?!

Reagan appointed judge: "If nobody’s going to enforce the Constitution, it becomes like the Constitution of Russia."
Genuine conservatives within the judiciary stand as one of the final bulwarks against authoritarian rule in America.
I have never seen a politician more directly copy this speech in my life
modern CSS is so good
We had elections during the Civil War.
Trump has no mechanism to delay, postpone, or suspend elections—legally or otherwise.
Accountability is coming.
And there's nothing that can be done to stop it.
Venezuela’s amnesty law “is only partial, leaving in place the Chavistas’ entire apparatus of repression and showing, contrary to President Trump’s claims, that the regime remains very much in control of the country,” says Cato’s Ian Vásquez.

* library, actually. Polymer just makes web components.
