The Aukus submarine pact has dragged Australia into the Trump administration’s illegal war on Iran in all but name. This was all entirely forseeable.

From me: The architect of the Robodebt scheme, who was told it was unlawful even as he delivered it for the government, is still employed in the public service, now at the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions. And in a senior governance and risk role. www.crikey.com.au/2026/02/20/r...
Shared with us from Sydney happening now. He had his hands up.
These cops just flat-out assaulted an elderly man.
Plain as day that the cops are the only ones interested in violence.
Just your regular reminder that John Howard never pushed back against Pauline Hanson and One Nation policies. He embraced them, which is how he outflanked them, while also setting the stage for what the Liberals are today. The myth that he 'pushed back' truly needs to die.
BREAKING: The two federal immigration agents who fired on Minneapolis protester Alex Pretti are identified in government records as Border Patrol agent Jesus Ochoa and Customs and Border Protection officer Raymundo Gutierrez.
I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

To the NACC: can you tell us why there haven't been any public hearings into the Robodebt matter?

NACC says: No comment.
I’m sure this point has been made elsewhere but not only did they openly lie about how many recommendations were in the robodebt final report, the one they erased was to reform FOI and now they’re heading in the opposite direction. Surprise is not a feature of my reaction.
🚨BREAKING: The last journalists working for AFP in Gaza have said they can no longer work for the news agency.
They are out of energy and they are starving to death.
I have never seen a statement from a news organisation like it.

People around the world are starving now because of Musk’s cuts. They are dying of disease because of Musk’s cuts. They are being born with diseases they will carry with them for the rest of their lives because of Musk’s cuts. https://trib.al/91rI7x6
Labor's safeguard mechanism is "inadequate" for the challenges facing the nation because of emissions such as the NorthWest Shelf, warns Amanda McKenzie, CEO of the Climate Council, a group that campaigns against climate pollution. "There's no way to sequester those emissions," McKenzie says. "If you allow your fossil fuel sector to expand and you don't have tight enough targets in the safeguard that put pressure on those projects to cut emissions, then other sectors like agriculture and transport have to do more. "The idea that this is an offshore problem is entirely false because any fossil fuel project is using fossil fuels for export. "So we have to account for that climate pollution in Australia." It's a point the opposition might care to make. If it wasn't so busy toying with a world where doing nothing is the apparent answer.
#BreakingNews: The Greens have agreed to back in reforms to strengthen the Safeguard Mechanism, to deliver the first legislation in a decade that will regulate climate pollution. The reforms include a hard cap on emissions. More details to come. #Auspol @AdamBandt @Bowenchris
Wow. Honestly, just so infuriating. I have zero confidence any of this is going to stick, and the next time Bowen drops subsidies for home owners to buy batteries it all gets memory holed.
So many of us have been warning about these problems for YEARS

Today, EnergyAustralia acknowledges that carbon offsetting is not the most effective way to assist customers to reduce their emissions and apologises to any customer who felt that the way it marketed its Go Neutral products was unclear. EnergyAustralia has now shifted its focus to direct emissions reductions. Greenhouse gases are harmful to the environment and contribute to climate change. While offsets can help people to invest in worthwhile projects that may reduce greenhouse gas emissions elsewhere, offsets do not prevent or undo the harms caused by burning fossil fuels for a customer’s energy use. Even with carbon offsetting, the emissions released from burning fossil fuels for a customer’s energy use still contribute to climate change.
Today, EnergyAustralia has been forced to admit what @australiainstitute.org.au research has long shown: Carbon offsets are a total sham & do nothing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Time for the govt to stop trumpeting them as the answer. They are not

Oh dear you’re going to want to read this. Looks like DOGErs were caught exfiltrating NLRB data, likely on unions, for private (seemingly Elony) use. This is must read. What we’ve all suspected. But now details. www.npr.org/2025/04/15/n...
If the proposed government efficiency minister (Trump™️) can’t name specific areas of waste to be cut, perhaps her pretend ministry (which only replicates the work of the finance minister anyway) should itself face the chop?
Imagine you’re a country funding an expensive Canberra embassy, only for the PM to suddenly base himself somewhere else. At a whim. Just one of many implications of snubbing the capital.
