Absolutely, a broad liberal arts education was seen as the foundation for illumination and fulfillment of the Enlightenment. The barbarians in charge now don't know what they don't know. They know only what they feel and use every rationale they can dream up to maintain it.
I am 100% behind this. It’s very sad that many post-92 universities are now largely technical schools rather than centres of learning and enrichment for their local communities. My first degree was from a College of Higher Education where I studied a mix of English, sociology, politics & philosophy
