Rap duo chelmico recently announced an indefinite hiatus after a decade of genre-bending music. They successfully bridged the gap between underground netlabels and J-pop mainstream with a playful energy that was often ahead of its time.

5x5 for the week! My so-called break: about twelve hours of new and recent music I've been meaning to get to. This probably could've been a 6x6, but I'm lazy. (Of the ten releases missing, most of them were singles anyway.) For next week, I'm heading back to the punk/metal mines. Destination: 1992!

โ120 Minutesโ premiered on MTV 40 years ago today. The program, airing from 1โ3 a.m. EST on Mondays, was conceived as a showcase for new and experimental videos. It soon moved to midnight, and as its focus narrowed to alternative music, it became essential viewing for fans of cutting-edge bands.

I have a lot of mixed feelings about IVE and consider them one of the most overrated groups currently active, but I must concede that _REVIVE+_ is pretty good barring a handful of annoying moments. Might be tied for best release overall with _I'VE IVE_ tbh.

Hiroshi Nagaiโs iconic pop art defined the visual identity of Japanese city pop. His work captured a sense of economic prosperity through idealized American landscapes and became the aesthetic backbone of the 1980โs sunny music.
Speaking of "theater-kid energy," I know Olivia would absolutely tear up a "Promises of Eternity" cover.

5x5 for the week! Bit off a bit more than I could chew--here's where the CD era starts to pop off--but managed to listen to twenty-three notable punk and metal albums from 1990 and 1991, for the most part. Unrelated, but I think I'm gonna take a breather next week to catch up on new releases!
