Scotcast - Glasgow fire: who owns our historic buildings? - BBC Sounds Who is responsible for preserving our heritage – and are they doing enough?

I really enjoyed this conversation with Laura, Natalie and Calum on Scotcast. As the dust settles after the Union Street fire, we talked about who owns our cities, what that means for our heritage and how we can give ordinary people more ownership over their cities. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

I have asked the Scottish Government provide financial support for the businesses affected by this week’s fire at Union Corner and will continue to provide updates. Any businesses who would like help can email me at Kaukab.stewart.msp@parliament.scot

This is hilarious.

Also, completely enraging.

Or, if you can’t be bothered with that 250-year old prose, How Adam Smith Can Change Your Life as a pop summary of it isn’t bad either.

The gulf between what Smith actually believed and wrote and the caricature of him is considerable. Theory of Moral Sentiments is really worth reading

While child poverty has reduced in Scotland, even one young person growing up in poverty is one too many.

Today I announced Β£5.8m for organisations supporting families across Scotland – joined-up help, delivered locally, to improve life chances for children.

This morning I went to Union Street to see the damage and talk to Network Rail, the Police, Fire Services and the First Minister about how best we can support the people and businesses affected by the fire.

My hairdresser and friend opened her business last week. Tonight it burned to the ground. This is devastating.

I’ve set up a fundraiser. If you haven’t done anything for international women’s day yet, here’s a chance to support a women-run business in need: www.paypal.com/pools/c/9nhn...

Quite a feat to have stopped the fire spreading to the station itself. The collapsed building is directly adjoining.

Quite an image on the BBC live page (www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cd...; no photographer credited).

Sounds as if they've saved the station and the hotel, and more importantly, without loss of life.

Citizens; heroes.

Medical transition for trans kids is now banned for new referrals on the NHS. Trans kids in the UK can still go private or DIY (for now).

This means the new clinics that replaced GIDS are close to useless at best, conversion therapy at worst. 1/5

My office is maintaining contact with the Police and Fire services, as well as Network Rail, and will provide updates as the situation progresses. We are also here to support any of the local businesses affected in any way we can.

The fire on Union Street yesterday and overnight is absolutely devastating, a dark day for Glasgow. Central Station remains closed for the time being. I am hugely grateful to the emergency services who have worked throughout the night to contain the blaze and limit the damage.

The fire at Glasgow central station is utterly devastating. Shops, homes and our transport link to England are being wiped out.
I am amazed by the limited news coverage.

I still can’t believe Joani Reid’s husband is an alleged Chinese spy and an Alba plant snuck into the number one spot on the Labour Lothian list and Anas Sarwar tried and failed to coup Starmer. What a month for the Scottish Labour Party.
