Having adjusted the speeds on my turntable, I tested it by playing the single and album versions of the same song. The quality of the single version was so much better. Is this a well known thing, or just randomness?

Should reintroduce hard labour sentences just for her.
Spurs play today.
46 years ago today and on my way home from school, 13 yr old me queued up to buy Going Underground by The Jam from Tracks record shop in Railway Street, Hertford.
Was thinking about this and my own family.
Phylis Nelson, Move Closer on BBC2. Brings back memories of the era of huge screened video jukeboxes in pubs.
Watching BBC News . I realise its reach is international, but can the presenters please speak British English? I just heard that something happened Saturday rather than ON Saturday. Preposition needed.
I’ve just listened to (There’s Always) Something On My Mind by The Pale Fountains, which was nice.
A nasty cold, hurty knee, and I support a clown-show of a football team. Time for some Smokey Robinson, he’ll make it all feel better.
Spurs play today.
It was once my job to research brothels.
My ear worm today is not a song, but Celia Johnson’s early ‘40s accent circa In Which We Serve and Brief Encounter. Very odd.
Paternal - Shipping clerk, British infantry officer WW1, social worker, civil servant
Maternal - Stoker rising to Chief Stoker Royal Navy, sunk twice in the med in WWII, sparky post war
Lots of kids in fancy dress going off to our local primary school for World Book Day today. One kid was wearing regular clothes and an Ill fitting molded plastic eye patch. Something something Pirates I’m guessing. Nice work dad.
Operation Epic Fury is such hyperbolic nonsense isn’t it? Why can’t we have understated names like those used by the UK forces in the Mediterranean in wwii? Operations Lightfoot, Fustian, Snowdrop or Candytuft for example.
Three people I find creepy as fuck for absolutely no reason.
Richard Osman
Zack Polanski
Marcus Wareing
I hate the way Chris Mason cradles his chin in his hand to signal that he’s doing some REALLY IMPORTANT THINKING. He isn’t.
Over the last fortnight I’ve used lots of TFL services beyond my usual journeys - I’ve used tube and overground services and the DLR, and all have been pretty good.
I’d much rather we didn’t, but am old enough to remember signing two Argentinian lads on our way back up, and then winning the FA cup a couple of times and the UEFA cup in ‘84.
Had a terrific birthday weekend. Food, theatre, seeing an old mate, seeing the same old mate’s band, more food, too much to drink, gallery and museum. And Mrs D made me a home-made coffee eclair. Work in the morning, bugger.
Matt Goodwin not being an MP this morning has been a great birthday present.
If Starmer wants to improve his popularity he needs a gimmick. Churchill had loads - cigars, siren suit, Homburg etc, Wilson had his Macintosh and pipe and Thatcher her handbag, frilly necklines and hairdo. He should start smoking cheroots and wearing a beret. Or something.
A daft playlist I’ve made of most of the cover versions I could find on Spotify of The BeeGees wonderful I Started a Joke. Such a great song, even Freddie Starr can’t ruin it.

Had a look a Bryan Ferry’s Wikipedia entry. I mean, didn’t we all?
I hate how Covid gave the supermarkets a reason to canalise their customers, which they’ve really run with since.
Happy Birthday!!!! X
I have an entire LP, The Human League’s Dare. It was the only record she owned.
I love how two-tone brogues are sometimes called co-respondent shoes, on account of being associated with the kind of cad caught up in these types of cases.
Just used the phrase ‘tested my equipment’ in a work thing, sent it and then realised the recipient won’t understand light hearted campery, and will think I’ve taken leave of my senses.
