oh man, rip diamond dave. i didn't know him well but i met him one day in panhandle park with @wormmo.de, we ended up talking for a while and he invited us to his birthday party at a bookstore in the mission a few days later where we met a bunch of his friends. the world needs more people like him.

Diamond Dave Whitaker, Rest in Power Brother! Dave passed away at the age of 88 last Monday, March 2, 2026. He was a bridge from the Beat Generation to every subsequent countercultural movement, especially those that moved through our mutually adopted hometown of San Francisco. Like Kenneth Rexroth, a generation before, he identified as a lifelong anarchist.
