I'm not sure anyone MADE me learn poetry by heart but it's something I have always done. Learning more poems helped me stay sane on quiet days as a room steward in a museum and now sometimes I recite poems to my baby because being alone with a newborn you do sometimes run out of things to say...

Coin used as Leeds bus fare was 2,000‑year‑old currency The coin was handed down to Peter Edwards from his grandfather in the 1950s.

This is the sort of thing a cashless society robs us of, the opportunity to try to get away with paying the bus fare in Carthaginian currency www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Yeah of all the historic buildings I worked in, the only one where I wouldn't have expected the roof to fall in 5 minutes into a fire was the watermill- not because Mills have never burned- they used to all the time because flour go boom- but because it was always slightly damp so would take longer.

And if anyone who is or might like to be pregnant would like to chat about having a planned c section for the reason of 'maternal choice' - please wave at me- I had one and originally thought it would be under a general anaesthetic but had a spinal so I can chat through options/birth plans for both.

Context- the only reason I finally learned to drive is that I got a job which involves helping volunteers in rural churchyards all over England. My job is the best. I also used to manage 10 cemeteries and have issues letting go so all my favourite ones still get a lot of help too...

I use my hybrid Yaris to haul gardening equipment covered in literal grave dirt. An earwig fell on my mom's head in my car once. Luckily we were stopped at lights so she jumped out and shook it off. Now I have a newborn I need to get it actually cleaned professionally...

Women in support of the trans+ community - Not in our name

We want the media and politicians to recognise that there is a large number of women who are supportive of the trans+ community. We call on them to report truthfully about the sources of violence against women and to address the systems that perpetuate harm. notinourname.org.uk/petition/not...

I heard that was a thing but I'm lucky to get one drop of milk at a time so....

My kiddo gets his milk warm when he has the patience to wait for it. If he's throwing a fit I usually end up giving it him colder than is ideal and usually he goes for it. Apparently I preferred it straight out of the fridge when I was little 🀣

Mine never seems to let down regardless- at least not with a noticeable sensation.

I also have a real imbalance between my boobs- but they did both work more equally at one point. The right one gave up pretty much entirely once I got a hospital grade pump and my output halved... Kiddo is happy and healthy so far though- hopefully he will also stay taller than average.

My kiddos dinner looked like this today. Probably 2 more meals like this before I give up pumping after his 12 week jabs, because there is only so long I can keep up this pathetic charade of 'combi feeding'. I guess this is my body's way of making up for having been better at pregnancy than expected

I agree. I do now own a car- having learned to drive at the age of 34 when I got a job which included travel to rural areas- but I'm enjoying having time to walk to everywhere with baby on mat leave. Would be great if I didn't have to worry about cars speeding past our house (20 zone by a school).

Last year from January to June 471 people were killed or seriously injured on the roads in Birmingham, UK- and that was celebrated as an 18% reduction on the year before. Population is bigger than Brussels (9 deaths) but smaller than Berlin (55 deaths). We have so much further to go.

We have a load of those to stick on the nursery ceiling. I wanted my dad to do it with me because he put the ones in my childhood bedroom up as actual constellations, but he's not managed to get round to meet the babby yet so I'll probably end up doing it myself now I'm allowed on ladders again!

I would say to get one because the aurora/nebula effect is very pretty and they aren't expensive but I have to turn the actual stars off because they are green?! So I don't recommend it really

I'm rocking the baby and singing badly instead with womb sounds playlist background noise and an astronaut shaped star projector on the ceiling. Same thing right?

I continue to be fascinated by the phenomenon whereby an expert engages with any of the LLMs on their field of expertise and is instantly horrified by the wrong answers, and then goes on to use it for things they are not experts in as though it won’t be just as bad for those.

I know, I'm an old sentimental fool, but seeing that these 1000 year old child's mittens from Iceland were attached with a string made me a little emotional, my mittens were tied together when I was little.

Sort of got to respect this energy. Might have to try out that final sentiment on people I want to visit.
