Currently working on something with @arseniccatnip.bsky.social and her EB64 cutscene animations. We're integrating Godot into the pipeline with custom shaders I programmed. I'm very very impressed with the results!!

I am aware, but the amount of pre-rendered backgrounds is small in comparison the hundreds of 3D maps that make up the game. In comparison, FF7 is made up of hundreds of pre-rendered backgrounds while saving 3D modeled environments for battles and minigames.
I love how some people say "FF7 would have been this many disks on 64DD" even though the reality is that the game would have been made within the constraints of the hardware and would have been like 3 or 4 disks at most
I always imagined a "64DD Final Fantasy 7" to be like how Miyamoto described a MOTHER 3 Cart/Disk mix in older interviews, using a cartridge for the engine + shared assets and 2 - 3 disks for all the major data. Maybe even having the saves in the cartridge to carry between the disks.
Yea exactly like, all the things that took up all the space on CD, the pre-rendered backgrounds and FMVs, probably wouldn't have existed. Like they probably would've been fully 3D environments & in-engine cutscenes like how Ocarina of Time did everything.
