I'm very much looking forward to this event, next Friday.
A pile of new books, purchased on my bookshop day ambassador tour. T Kingfisher, T J Klune, Katherine Arden, some interesting folklore and a bee notebook.
A fantastic day on Saturday. 100 miles travelled, 10,000 steps walked, 8 bookshops visited and a lovely pile of reading purchased. Thanks to all the lovely booksellers who took part. #bookshopday #choosebookshops
Signing copies of my folklore books at Chepstow Bookshop
I'm excited to be a #bookshopday ambassador. I'm celebrating with a grand tour to sign and buy books. This may be dangerously expensive! First stop, Chepstow Books. @booksaremybag.bsky.social @fireflypress.bsky.social
We hope you've all got your bookshop visiting plans ready for #BookshopDay tomorrow?
If you're in South Wales, you may spot campaign ambassador @clairefayers.bsky.social out and about, signing copies and ready to chat all things books!

A giant kite of Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon flies on the grassy stretch between apartments and the sea in Dieppe, part of the kite festival
Dragons at the Dieppe kite festival. The conditions weren't the best for flying but the final day was glorious.
The Big Bad Wolf Murder by PG Bell
Congratulations and happy publication @pgbellwriter.bsky.social Really looking forward to getting my teeth into this.
You can get kits but we used Ikea cubes and shelves and two climbing posts from Amazon. Spacing was a bit of trial and error and my husband had to redrill several times. The main challenge was making sure there was enough vertical jump space from cubes to shelves.
Idris the mighty kitten stands atop the wardrobe, very pleased with himself for getting up there via a series of little shelves.
We've nearly finished the cat climbing wall and Idris decided to check it out before we put the last shelf in. He's having a great time bouncing all over it while I watch, terrified.
Felicitations right back to you. There should be more Claire days.
My sister informed me it was Claire Day yesterday, and apparently it is Claire Day in the States today. I await your accolades!
I'm on the final stretch of edits on my exciting new project. Aiming to finish this week. I think I've got the right edit/tea balance for optimal performance.
Looking for something to do this week? I'll be running two children's writing workshops for the libraries Summer Reading Challenge on Friday, 1st August. 10:30-11:30am in Abergavenny library and 2:30-3:30pm in Gilwern library. Places are free, but please book as spaces are limited.
We took our new cat to the vet to be neutered yesterday and now our other cat is attacking him. Apparently there's a thing called non-recognition aggression where the cat comes home smelling different. Has anyone dealt with this?

I'm so glad I got to do the reveal. I have been badgering Firefly for a copy for at least a year!
It's an amazing cover.
Cover reveal! Here it is - the fantastic cover for Dirk Jones is NOT the Chosen One by Gatlin Perrin, coming from @fireflypress.bsky.social You can read all about the book, and an interview with the author here. preview.mailerlite.io/emails/webvi...
I am doing my first cover reveal today! I'm just a bit excited. All will be revealed at noon.
Whilst in bed with covid I am watching The Legend of Shen Li, in which the Phoenix king of the Immortal Realms loses a fight and crashes to Earth as a chicken. (Yes, the king is female. I think that gets explained later.) So far it's Storm Hound with a bird. There could be a whole franchise here.
I can't wait!
Cup of tea
Time for a cuppa before heading over to Monmouth for the FCBG conference. I'm looking forward to a weekend of book talk.
Why waste a good cup of tea when you can keep nuking it?
A mug of tea.
Today I played how many times can I microwave the same cup of tea and forget to drink it. Current score 5, with potential to rise to 6 in the next 20 minutes.
The Abergavenny Writing Festival is on this weekend. If you're in the area, it's well worth coming along. You can get tickets in advance or pay on the door. abergavennywritingfestival.com
