I think too they might have just cordoned off any sort of love as "something humans do" very early on and never revisited (sensing risk). I think them accepting they're in love also requires them first accepting that human is their first language now (if not their native language lol).

(completely IMO, not stating as fact) That scene was sort of weird to me because up until that point it seemed like Crowley was the one who knew the score on that front--*he* was the one asking Aziraphale to fuck off to Alpha Centauri with him. He wants to drive him around in his car, etc.
