Are you saying they're getting better through obfuscation, as in an additional layer that blocks outputs that are too close? e.g. as opposed to just having so much more in their training sets that what they produce is more of an 'average' of many things and not a reproduction of one thing?

Dear Mr. Nguyen,
This is in response to your request for an administrative reduction of a minimum required setback
pursuant to Section 5100.2.D.11.(c) of the Fairfax County Zoning Ordinance. This request was received
via email by the Zoning Administration Division on December 11, 2025.
BACKGROUND ZONING INFORMATION & SITE HISTORY: As owner of the above-mentioned
property, you are requesting an administrative reduction of a minimum required setback pursuant to
Section 5100.2.D.11.(c) of the Fairfax County Zoning Ordinance. Building Permit #BLDR-2025-00331
was issued on August 21, 2025, for a three-story addition, on a concrete slab, to the existing residence
located at 4210 Marble Lane; you are listed as the permit holder for the project. The property is zoned to
the R-3 Cluster District, which requires a minimum front yard setback of 20 feet; a minimum side yard
setback of 8 feet, with both side yard setbacks totaling a minimum 20 feet; and minimum rear yard
setback of 25 feet. In addition, the maximum building height for a residence in the R-3C District is 35
feet. As approved as part of Building Permit #BLDR-2025-00331, the proposed addition was to be
constructed with a front yard setback of 21 feet; a right side yard setback of 8.5 feet and no change to the
existing left yard setback of 15.6 feet (existing), for a combined total of 24.1 feet; and a rear yard
setback of 25.1 feet. In addition, the proposed addition is to have a maximum finished building height of
32 feet. Based on the proposed setbacks and building height shown on the approved building plans, the
addition satisfied the minimum requirements for the R-3C District.
Construction of the addition commenced following the issuance of the building permit. Staff from Land
Development Services' (LDS) Building Division Inspections Branch and the Permitting and Code
Administration Division's Environmental Compliance Branch inspected the property and discovered that

Construction of the addition commenced following the issuance of the building permit. Staff from Land Development Services' (LDS) Building Division Inspections Branch and the Permitting and Code Administration Division's Environmental Compliance Branch inspected the property and discovered that

the construction of the addition did not match the approved plans. Among the multiple deficiencies
identified, staff found that the addition deviated from the wall bracing design within the approved plans
and posed an immediate safety risk. As a result, the Building Official issued a Legal Notice for a Stop
Work Order on November 24, 2025. Since the issuance of the Stop Work Order, construction activities
have ceased, and County staff have been working with you to determine the corrective action necessary
to secure the addition until subsequent steps are taken to bring the property into compliance. In addition
to other ways construction deviated from approved plans, staff raised concerns about whether the right
side yard setback of the addition as constructed meets the minimum required setback of 8 feet for the
R-3C District (or the 8.5 feet shown on the plans). Due to this concern, you submitted a House Location
Survey and Wall Check, prepared by Robert J. Tedesco Jr. and dated December 3, 2025. This survey
shows that the unfinished wall of the addition adjacent to the right side property line to the northwest is
located only 7.8 feet from the property line at the front corner and only 7.4 feet from the property line at
the rear corner, failing to meet the required foot setback. The survey is taking these two right side yard
setback measurements from the foundation of the addition, and the wood-framed portion of the addition
is in an unfinished state; when finished, it will encroach further into the required setback.

b. The noncompliance was done through no fault of the property owner, or was the result of an
error in the location of the building or structure after the issuance of a building permit, if
required;
It is acknowledged in your request that the approved plans for Building Permit #BLDR-2025-00331
reflected a compliant side yard setback of 8.5 feet. However, you stated to staff in a previous meeting
that the addition was constructed 1.1 feet closer due to a surveying discrepancy that occurred on the
initial survey produced to accompany the permit, which resulted in a side yard setback of only 7.4 feet.

It sounds like it was a surveying error, though it's a little unclear if it was in the stake-out (which I'd assume) or the initial survey like the owner seems to be saying. Approved plan met the setback requirement with 6" to spare.

Lets foreign-flagged tankers transport oil from rigs in the Gulf to the East Coast refineries that are now starved of crude.

I would expect this is a limited waiver for tanker movements from the Gulf to the East Coast refineries that typically refine oil from the Middle East, not a complete waiver that would help Hawaii or PR.

Mainly: furnished places are generally rented for short stints, so each one gets listed much more often than a yearly rental. It's not that there are so many more of them, it's just that there are more listings for them. An apartment rented for 30 days at a time gets listed 12x a year!

not a naval warfare expert, but it seems like not mining the entire strait but leaving a shipping channel right along their coast makes it easier to maintain the closure, effectively making the strait even narrower. less warning for drone launches, within range of conventional artillery

President Trump has told aides he would back the killing of new Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei if he proves unwilling to cede to U.S. demands, such as ending Iran’s nuclear development, current and former U.S. officials said.

The White House declined to comment, but Trump on Monday told the New York Post he was β€œnot happy” that Khamenei was selected to lead Iran after previously calling him β€œunacceptable.” Trump last week on social media said he wanted a say in picking a β€œgreat and acceptable” ruler for Iran following its β€œunconditional surrender.”

β€œI’m not going through this to end up with another Khamenei,” Trump told Time magazine last week.

Israel would likely execute an operation aimed at taking out Khamenei, who was named as supreme leader on Sunday, a current and a former U.S. official said, noting that Israel is taking the lead on targeting Iranian leaders. Asked recently on CNN if Khamenei was a target for Israel, the country’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said: β€œYou’ll have to wait and see.”

If you’re pushing housing in lowrise n’hoods, eliminating useless sideyards is the unlock for the urban design everybody says they want.
In exchange for sideyards that no one uses, you get better units, lush interior courtyards, space for trees and play, higher density and lower energy use.
