"Just as Isaac Babel proclaimed that heโd invented a new genre, that of silence, to keep the regime at bay; and just as Kafkaโs Sirens possess a weapon more powerful than their song โ namely, their silence โ so here at Tesco there might be those for whom sound is not the desired norm."
@martinoneill.bsky.socialย unpacks the story of Labour Together and Josh Simmons to explore a toxic political culture that relies on smears and disinformation to serve the interests of wealthy donors. What does this mean for the future of the UK's Labour party?
Utterly convincing on the benefits of rail, but also about so much more than just trains, describing how we can effectively create society and community that works for us all
Finally got round to reading @garethdennis.uk excellent book How the Railways will Fix the Future
โStreaming is more like having an industrial catering-sized fridge in your home, in which the abundant food is going out of date before you can eat it.โ

Gareth Dennisโ book how the railways will fix the future
I am on a train with a new copy of that @garethdennis.uk book. This shit needs fixing (the trains, not the book).
I will never get tired of seeing people get excited about the better future than trains can give us... THANKS SO MUCH X

โค It recorded that children, women, and the elderly make up 47.2% of those killed during the โceasefire.โ โค It documents 1,856 Israeli field violations, averaging 13.5 violations per day, including live fire, drone strikes, artillery shelling, demolitions, and naval gunfire. โค The most severe violations, according to the report, concern aid. The ceasefire requires 600 trucks per day, including 50 fuel trucks. The document states that only 43.2% (260 of 600 agreed trucks) have entered overall, and just 15.1% of required fuel. โค It accuses Israel of providing โmisleading figuresโ to mediators and refusing independent monitoring, calling the fuel restrictions a deliberate obstruction of recovery and basic services. โค Only 1,753 of 4,200 scheduled travelers were allowed to pass through Rafah in both directions โ a compliance rate of just 41.7%. The report concludes that the violations form a โcontinuous and systematic patternโ that has stripped the ceasefire of practical substance.

The reason you canโt give a single inch on anything be it trans rights or dignity for unhoused people is that they, democrats and republicans alike, will take it and say thanks what else is in your pockets? They wonโt say thanks actually.
Very excited to have gotten the proofs for our little essay collection "What is Liberal Socialism?" for @repeaterbooks.bsky.social. Includes contributions by me, @liberalcurrents.com editor @paulcrider.liberalcurrents.com and Florian Maiwald

Finally finished this excellent book by @garethdennis.uk, highly recommended to all interested in modern society! It got me thinking how do people doing infrastructures now and in the premodern period can have a conversation? There is clearly loads to talk about here, many similar observations.
Those who oppose fascism today do so at great personal risk. We know more lives will be lost in the coming year, but Bob Sheldon's death shows us that the spirit of liberation cannot be killed. Long live I-Books! His memory is a blessing โค๏ธโ๐ฅ
"Nazis were just regular people" is not a statement meant to evoke empathy or to excuse their crimes. It is a statement of warning.
The capacity to be part of and perpetrate atrocities is not limited to "monsters," it is wholly human. It is what we must always be aware of.

Damned interesting conversation on the Left Hook with David Morris (author of "Stealing The Future: Sam Bankman-Fried, Elite Fraud, and the Cult of Techno-Utopia"). As most of us have already deduced, the Tech Bros are a pack of weirdo creeps.

Called "among the most important books of the year" by The American Prospect, if you want to understand the techno-feudalist ideology that's underwriting a lot of what's going on in Washington and Westminster, there's really no better book to read than David's (and no better time to buy it than now)
