Sometimes it is kind of a shame we only work with students only one semester. I have had the absolute privilege of working with a handful of students for the entire year, and it's been so crazy cool to see their thinking take shape over that time.

My grandma’s apartment building has burned down. Fortunately she’s safe, and we can help her. But so many people in Iran are so poor and don’t have anyone. This regime propagated their misery for years. They funded terrorism globally while Iranian people go hungry.
My partner is in the Metropolitan Opera Chorus, and we both agree opera has work to do to broaden its appeal.
However, these companies also employ hundreds—sometimes thousands—of employees, many of whom are unionized.
Both artistically and politically, Chalamet’s point is a horrendous one.
My yoga instructor is Iranian. She has always a bit cool toward me since I started attending her classes. Like doesn't say hello, no smiles. Totally fine! She's a serious person!
Yesterday, when we saw each other, we ran toward each other and hugged.
This is what it means to us.
Expressed* purpose or not, their aim was to stop dictators. We see that as ok but not this? Is it only noble when it’s the west but not when it’s Iranians?
The regime killed more of its own people in the last month than this attack. Your post seems to imply you care about Iranians but without condemning the regime your statement reads as more ideological than humanitarian.
That’s such a silly counter. 😹
Is that what you’d say to those who were freed under axis power control? Or soviet rule?
The mental gymnastics of seeing Iranians inside the county and globally celebrating and then still saying this isn’t what Iranians wanted…
Once again. If you said NOTHING while the regime murdered 30,000 of its own people in less than one months time, maybe you should do the same today. You don’t actually care about Iranian lives.
How about this: if you didn’t post anything when the Iranian regime killed tens of thousands of Iranians protesting for freedom in the streets, maybe you should refrain on commenting on Iran today esp if your comment is “concern for Iranians.” Honestly, it makes you look cynical and heartless.
I get it. I think this may have been the only way to even try. Now we’re just hoping for the best.
I’m not sure if this is the right question since the current regime didn’t have popular legitimacy. Of course all Iranians would have preferred a democratic option. But that was never going to happen under the regime. Now we are hoping for freedom whereas before we knew we’d never get it.
Iranians were rising up and the regime killed thousands upon thousands of people. Regular people don’t have the arms to revolt against a regime like Iran. Not saying the US doesn’t have its own agenda, but the Iranian people have shown they don’t want the regime. Shouldnt we listen to them?
I know it’s idealistic, but I really hope the series finale of Tehran (whenever it is) will have Tamar choosing to live happily in a free Iran. Each season she’s connecting more with being Iranian, and it’s nice to see. 🥺
One of my guiltiest pleasures of being a professor is that the university library both drops off and picks up books at faculty offices. Omg I feel so guilty, but I loveeee itttt. Shoutout to Dawn at our library!!!

LMAOOOOOOOO
Of course 😒
Lmao wait who was this? Thats WILD.
This guy gets it.
I assigned twice as much reading for my class this week because there will be two discussion leaders. During the summer, I was pleased because that gives us more material to discuss. Tonight I am not pleased because whereas the students only need to read three of six, I need to read six of six 🙈
In case you missed the moment.
Art is powerful
If you didn’t catch the significance of the exploding transformers in Bad Bunny’s halftime show, I gotcha. Here’s one of a bunch of pieces I wrote from/on Puerto Rico about the crisis—and Trump’s role in it. slate.com/news-and-pol...
Reviewed a piece and listed out a bunch of cites they had missed. None of them were of my work, bc I thought it was not as directly related.
Anyway their response memo was like "OMG yes of course. We added those, but also other scholars you didn't mention like Amanda d'Urso"
😭 yay!
Race as a construct is so powerful that only now are many people saying ‘they are killing us’.
They have been killing us. We have all been us the whole time.
The murders Renee Good and Alex Pretti at the hands of govt sponsored officers is also happening in the thousands in Iran. It should not happen anywhere.
Execute suggests guilt. I think you mean murder.
Alex Jeffrey Pretti was an ICU nurse at a VA hospital. His life, through his profession, was dedicated to serving his community and our country.
As so many have now seen on video, his final act before he was killed by federal agents was doing everything in his power to protect his community.
For everyone tuning in from home, reminder that it's -5F with -15F windchills tonight.
Every person out tonight is freezing for their country and their constitution.
Minnesota Forever.
