"What's a defensive strike" is a reasonable question. If Trump's administration ever accepts responsibility for killing 165+ schoolchildren in Minab, they will surely claim the real target was the local naval base. A "defensive strike". The children will then be "collateral damage". Stuff happens?

Subscribers to KAGI get a selection of AI models included in the fee. I rather like "GLM-4.7 (reasoning)" which seems generally reliable for research and free from the occasional wild misunderstandings that plague the others. Yes, it's Chinese made, but open-source.

Ooh, an unboxing moment! The FNIRSE DPOX180H. This is what passes for a dual trace 180 Mhz oscilloscope nowadays. Barely any larger than a mobile phone, these things used to take up most of your workbench. But at least it has "digital phosphor" for that 1950s radar vibe.

Lunch today in Figueres' restaurant of the moment, "El Nou Suprem". A decent and quite aspirational menΓΊ del dia, with 3 courses and wine for EUR 19. Popular with working people. Not fine dining but certainly 'high velocity dining'. The table next to us were in and out in 36 mins π€

2016 UK-UAE Double Taxation Convention
..are not universal, eg UK residents in Bahamas & Maldives are double taxed. And even where treaties exist, they do not relieve ALL taxes, eg UK residents in FR still pay ISF & CGT on UK property.
So why did UK decide in 2016 to let Isabel & others live tax-free? And shouldn't this be changed? π€

Dubaiβs influencers discover you canβt curate a war
As missiles sailed through the sky above the UAE, some of its more vocal expats were aghast that life in the Middle East is not all low tax and M&S
AIUI, Isabel Oakeshott and others like her do not pay income tax ANYWHERE. This appears to be a UK gov decision.
UK, like most countries, taxes by default its CITIZENS on their GLOBAL income, wherever they live. This could mean Double Taxation, so treaties (DTTs) exist to relieve this. But DTTs ..

I don't think it has. I'm being a bit facetious because after years with hardly any rain, it's a shock to see a puddle! But the drought has been serious - specifically in our corner of France. Local farmers really aren't sure what to do. Anything you might grow needs some water.

Yes, apparently! And IIRC, the otherwise finished product eventually has to be 'watered down' to get the strength right. Obviously, they can't just use tap water - so they have special wells into which the precious liquid seeps through Cambrian rocks for 10 million years. Or something like that!

I think it was Lagavulin? Long time ago!
Guided tours & tastings, sometimes combined with golfing holidays, seemed to be a big part of their business! Whisky production by itself was a bit precarious, as it takes forever to make and the market goes up and down, with a major slump in the 1980s.

List of suffragette bombings - Wikipedia
I love the way the suffragettes enjoy 83% approval among supporters of the Labour Party - whose leadership today would have to proscribe them as terrorists (alongside Palestine Action). The suffragettes actually planted bombs and attempted to assassinate Lloyd George!
