WIRED named the DOGE operative accused here of planning to take Social Security data to his new job. It's John Solly, and he works for the government contractor Leidos, a company that has millions in contracts with SSA.

Re supposed end of the Target boycott: it’s 100% bullshit. See statement below from an *actual* leader of the initial DEI boycott.
Even if true (to repeat, it’s not!), it’s not up to any small group. Target has fixed nothing + compounded its DEI sins with ICE complicity. People are done with it!

Pete Hegseth gutted Pentagon oversight, calling the rules of war "stupid." He slashed the Middle East casualty team from 10 experts to one.
Then came the Minab strike: 170 girls and 14 teachers dead.
The Pentagon’s "inability to confirm" its role is the outcome Hegseth engineered.

Sure sounds like somebody at DOGE took the Social Security numbers and personal information of every American on record, and put it on a thumb drive to bring home to Elon Musk’s AI company.
Coons: "Right now, the clearest winner from this war in Iran is Russia. It's stunning that President Trump is on the phone with Vladimir Putin and spending more time consulting with him than he is with Congress and the American people."
WELKER: Why is Trump helping Russia in this moment?
WALTZ:I wouldn't characterize it that way
WELKER: How else would you describe easing oil sanctions?
WALTZ: It's common sense to allow oil sitting on ships to go to India
WELKER: Russia will be getting that money as it wages its war in Ukraine
Putin is literally helping Iran target US troops. At this point Republicans, if you don’t stand up to Trump, you’re just goddamn traitors!
This is a weak man who thinks this is how truly tough leaders talk.
What does this imply for those of us who are not Christian, and who labor under the assumption that we're protected by the First Amendment?
DHS invoked the “national emergency” at the border to skirt competitive bidding rules for a $220 million taxpayer-funded ad campaign, which has secretly benefited a firm with ties to Kristi Noem.

Deeply evil and not at all the case when I began teaching in 1999. You wouldn't have much left over, but you could eat without having a side hustle.
Everyone my age and older needs to call out the ridiculously low wages being paid to PK-12 practitioners these days.
Screenshot of excerpt from opinion that reads: "Despite this, the New York courts refused to stay the trial court’s order. After that highly questionable injunction was issued, the applicants filed appeals in both the Appellate Division (the State’s intermediate appellate court) and the Court of Appeals (its highest court) challenging the trial court’s order on federal constitutional grounds. At the same time, applicants asked both courts to stay the trial court’s order. The Appellate Division refused to issue a stay, and by order issued on February 11, the Court of Appeals sent the appeal filed in that court to the Appellate Division and dismissed applicants’ motions for a stay."
With nowhere else to turn, the applicants asked us to issue a stay, and we have jurisdiction to entertain their application. Title 28 U. S. C. §1257(a) gives us jurisdiction to review “[f]inal judgments or decrees” that are rendered by a State’s highest court and adjudicate federal constitutional claims, and the Court of Appeals’ February 11 order falls within that category.
1/9: In the New York redistricting case, Justice Alito's justification for why #SCOTUS even had *jurisdiction* to issue a stay is based upon a remarkably misleading portrayal of the state court proceedings.
I realize this is technical, but I wanted to write a short thread to explain the shadiness:
What's scary about this story is the surveillance it hints at. This trans woman had changed her name, legally, but chose not to change her gender marker. She was apparently flagged in the DMV system as trans and her license was invalidated under a law that supposedly only concerned gender markers.
"I, a member of <checks notes> the Senate Committees on Finance, Budget, Judiciary, Foreign Relations, & Select Intelligence, have no better idea than you what the hell is happening as the President of the United States takes us into a an illegal war."

The second and third richest men control Google.
The fourth richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
The fifth richest man owns The Washington Post.
And now the sixth richest could soon take over both Paramount and Warner Bros.
See the problem here?
Stop trying to change Putin’s mind. Change his capabilities instead. Arm Ukraine with more and better weapons, and impose tougher sanctions on Russian individuals and companies to cut off the money funding this war.
I’ve been wondering if the overt fawning is because he recognizes that the mayor has actual popular support or if he is still delusional in his thinking that he will get Broadway renamed or some weird shit
