The point of this day isn’t to post that “women are great”. That is a no brainer.
The point is accountability. Visibility for the barriers that still exist. And real conversations about what still needs to change.
Where are women in leadership roles?Who gets funded, promoted, and paid equally?Who gets invited to speak and shape industry conversations?Who quietly leaves the industry, and why?
International Women’s Day isn’t a marketing opportunity and it isn’t about pinkwashing your company image. It is a feminist day of action. A moment to talk about structural inequality and the barriers that still shape our industries and our societies.
Others share cheerful statistics meant to prove progress. Women are X% of the industry. Women are nearly half of players.
Okay. So women are here. That was never the issue.
Women exist. Shocker.
Yet every International Women’s Day the timeline fills up with “celebrate women” posts, pink branding, and companies suddenly trying to sell “things women need”.

So no GDC for me this year. And no other US events either.
I’ll miss people. I’ll miss running into friends and meeting new peers. But I’m not going to pretend this is normal, and I’m not going to normalize an industry culture that quietly expects everyone to take the same “professional risk”.
That isn’t “politics I disagree with.” It’s an escalation of state power and intimidation, and it directly affects who gets to move safely through borders and who doesn’t. For many people this was never safe to begin with. What’s changed is how aggressively it’s being normalized.
I’m not going to GDC this year.
Traveling to the US right now is a risk I am not willing to take.
The current Trump administration is a racist and sexist gang of thugs, terrorizing their own people and empowering political violence.
