I say this in the context that games being to expensive to make might be helped by using older tech that STILL looks good

Baked lighting wins everytime
I am yet to see an RTX remaster that looks better (or even as good) as the original
Working on a contract that the ONLY deliverables are PNG sprite sheets BUT BOY, setting up a repo for my own WIP VFX has been such a good idea (from my partner!) and wouldn't have occurred to me otherwise.
Saved my ass a lot
Hahaha I totally get it.
My brain is occupied by several games at any given time.
I need to learn to meditate
Damn, Quo looks good too.
Also wishlisted
Always happy to talk experiences and no worries about the wishlist, excited to play it when it's ready!
Good luck!
Ah that's fair tbh, I did go off on one ๐
By the way, sorry if this seems a bit lectury, just want to save people sleepless nights.
Also, Lapso looks amazing, wish listed!
I will admit, this often means me saying to myself "ahhh, it will be alright" and it does help.
Never be afraid to challenge old notions about yourself, especially if it leads to growth or happiness
Anything you can do to have no safety net to some, is not only useful but imo necessary, especially to avoid the post release burnout.
I'm aware it's all circumstantial by the way but I do feel it's important for an indie games not to dominate anyones mind. We all need time to rest
I totally understand about having a lot riding on the success of your game, I've been there, but I also suggest challenging the idea that it's all or nothing. So many games (mine included) didn't have that success & I became much happier when I mitigated the hope and financial stress to other places
I think if you frame something as "it's impossible to wake up and not think about my games" then it will be, but once you start saying "this is something I need to work on" , you will start seeing changes if you keep working on it.
It's really important to work on those adjacent things like good rest, good sleep, drinking water etc. rather than hyper-focusing on just the gamedev because these things are a detriment to long term happiness & therefore productivity.
If it helps, treat being healthy as a task in your trello board
Overthinking problems that havent found yet will overtax your brain, lead to scope creep and generally wreck your sleep.
You can save this energy loss by letting players present problems to you instead. It takes a bit of armour but ultimately, it will streamline your process.
When I feel like this, the best thing to do is to get it in front of people
You will either:
1. Feel elated that people are enjoying your game. (Go to 3)
2. You will feel destroyed that people didnt enjoy your game. (Go to 3)
3. You will eventually solve problems that arise during this playtest.
OMG YOU CAN PIN STUFF
Like, honestly, if you are in town when it happens, come down! I will introduce you to some fine folk
You switch out the phrase "Networking" for "Meeting nice folks" and it usually is way easier.
Same as if you replace "Marketing" with "Talk about your game to people "
Oh nice!
That said, it would be a picnic and maybe I could talk to my friend about a pop up bar
My gosh we did!
I'm thinking of it less as a giant picnic but more a flotilla of different established groups hanging out at the same time, like how groups would meet up at yerbna gardens and then curiously wander to other meets
You know, the best part of GDC for me were hanging out in the park with various meet ups happening and then the parties.
Makes me wonder if I could just organize that in London? Victoria Park maybe?
Perhaps a pub in the evening.
A reminder to all that when folks are talking about GDC this week and how much they are enjoying it, that they are talking about the community side of meeting new folks, sharing knowledge and feeling part of something bigger.
NOT the cynical, corporate, exclusionary side of the organization itself
Oh right! Yeah I've seen nodes referred to that in some softwares too.
That's so weird, I dropped my partner off at the zombie apocalypse and I'm about to play theme hospital
I recently started learning game development and I've signed up for the 20-Games game jam that starts next week.
I'm hoping someone could answer a question for me: Is there a standard right-hand set of keys like WASDEQ?
