@nerd4cities.bsky.social Canada is starting to take a serious look at high speed rail. I wondered if it really is good value.
Like wouldnβt the same money spent on local/regional transit benefit many more people. Ie expanding the subway in Toronto.
Mark Carney's grand bargain with Alberta wasn't popular with climate activists, but it's a much different story with the broader public.
Why it's part of his push to return the Liberals to their former position on the political spectrum. #cdnpoli www.nationalobserver.com/2025/12/12/o...
You can even see the current and proposed route on the map as a dashed line.
Very odd map, wrong locations for cities, and the route is all wrong as well.
Mark Carney managed to trade a pipeline that will never get built for meaningful progress on industrial carbon pricing and electricity interties β both of which will get more wind and solar built.
Remember when people thought he wasn't good at politics? www.nationalobserver.com/2025/11/27/o...

Great! Still one of my favourite bands. A little more folky than a lot of bands.

Mark Carney walks in a steel plant with workers.
The workers at Algoma Steel make some of the strongest steel in the world. American troops have driven armoured vehicles made with Algoma steel into combat.
This steel β and these workers β saved American lives.

I know itβs completely irrelevant now, but I wonder if OβTool would have been better for the Cons to have now.
βPoilievreβs spending spree is a sugar high that cares more about getting to the end of the day than it cares about coherence or totality. Itβs Milibandian in its stupidity, because just like Ed in 2015, all the parts might poll well, but together it doesnβt add upβ

Any company to use. If the government funded Nav Canada, stopped charging rent or subsidized the major airports, and paid for security. And supported small destinations (essential air service)
We could bring down the cost of flying, bring access to more people. And creat room for competition
I think there needs to be a discussion around how the costs of flying are paid though.
We have a user pay model here. So when you fly you help shoulder the cost of the infrastructure and the flight you are taking.
But maybe we should treat aviation like we treat roads. A system for anyone or

The consumer carbon tax is not working. Itβs become too divisive β at a time when Canada needs to be united.
As my governmentβs first order of business, I have cancelled it.
My message to our steel and aluminum workers: you have our full support, now and for the future.
Weβre going to build big things in Canada, and we need every one of you.
