If you are attempting to dissect cultural trends between the 80s and today, I would argue that one of the most comprehensive resources you can find is the discography of "Weird Al" Yankovic

β€œMAGA’s fundamental shared quality is a total lack of theory of mind for other people” is a theory that keeps getting validated by reality - look at almost every decision they’ve made in the war with Iran, and how they seem constantly surprised by the unanticipated actions of other parties.

Anyone that says the parties are the same should compare the Bush & Trump presidencies to the Obama & Biden presidencies or compare the laws passed by both parties.
It’s been 120 years since a GOP trifecta did anything good & keeping them out of power should be reason enough to vote Democrat.

It took hundreds of years of work & people being killed trying to help others register to vote before the Voting Rights Act was passed a century after the 13th Amendment’s ratification.
It’s an insult to the sacrifices civil rights workers made to refuse to vote & only benefits the Republicans.

Since 2016, the term’s been used to describe Bernie, the handful of Reps who share his platform & their supporters.
No real progressive would risk letting a Republican win by refusing to vote, especially with the SCOTUS majority on the ballot or when the choice is between a liberal & a fascist.

The word progressive has pretty much lost all meaning over the past decade.
It used to refer to people who were to the left of mainstream liberals, but shared many of their legislative goals, such as UHC, and understood the importance of voting pragmatically rather than having purity tests.

There really are some folks who have absolutely no ability to process a piece of fiction that's any more complex or nuanced than an extremely basic morality play, and they have decided that it's everyone else's problem.

Every complaint about the Mandarin and Trevor Slattery that was being made when it first came out has, in my opinion, absolutely not held up over time.

There's people, and this time I'm not even talking about anyone here , who build a worldview where it doesn't matter who is President because the REAL power is The Multinationals and their interests and...this is all terrible but it's glad to see it proven that no, who is President matters.

β€œRight, I think it's time to take a step back for a minute.
The KIDS Act is not the worst-case scenario. We hate it for obvious reasons, but given the absolute flood of state age verification laws of late, a federal AV law for adult websites would change very, very little in this country. The regulations on design features for online platforms don't carry any mandates like what ChatControl used to have, and the text of them specifically preempts any interpretation that forces age verification on social media.
Most of what it requires, other than the poisonous idea of age verification, is already done by the great majority of the websites we use. A mandate for "establishing reasonable policies addressing harms to minors" is nothing like a duty of care, especially when the harms listed are HIGHLY illegal things which these websites already moderate. The fact that it mandates functioning user report systems is something I could fully get behind in a bill that was less overly broad.
And no, it has not passed the House. It's not even guaranteed a floor vote. It was reported out of committee.
The amount of time between this stage and a floor vote, if one ever comes, is usually very substantial, meaning we have plenty of time to work. Even worse for it than that, it only made it out of committee along party lines, meaning that it's going to face an almost impossible path in the Senate from the moment it gets there, if it ever even does, and I do mean "if". Thune's reluctance, Cruz's spite, Blumenthal and Blackburn's insistence on something worse, the progressive wing's hostility toward age verification, and Wyden's stubborn use of procedural hurdles almost guarantee a death by a thousand cuts.
Do. Not. Panic. Do not get demoralized, do not let yourselves be defeated in advance, do not fall for doomer misinformation on other subs and YouTube, and do not fucking give up.”

The image is a 4 panel black and white comic

Panel 1 - A person is looking down at their phone, saying "Hey google, [Yes or No question]?"

Panel 2- Four people representing the search results arrive, in order of left to right answering, "5 Myths about-" "No" "Yes" and "Featured paid for article"

Panel 3- With the group still standing there, the person then says to their phone, "Hey Reddit..."

Panel 4- Two more people show up to the right, one answering "It depends" and the smaller text reading "*slur*"

What we're watching happen in real time is Trump getting criticism for his decision to launch this dumb war & his fragile narcissistic ego do what it always does when confronted with the possibility that he made a mistake: double down. Thats how we go from "no new wars" to "we can do this forever"

obviously the president of Ukraine could have no interest in Iran, now to take a big sip of coffee and look up what a Shahed drone is.
