Thanks so much for sharing your experience, thatβs really helpful. It doesnβt have to be a maths qualification, itβs just an option that Iβve been asked to find out if itβs a feasible one.
That is a very good point. I think the rationale is so that students get an experience of a gcse exam ahead of the pressures of year 11.
Iβve been asked about the suitability of GCSE Statistics as an early entry option. Anyone had any experience of doing this? #mathstoday

It's that time of year again - your annual reminder that if you're a Maths teacher and looking for suitable resources for your classes across KS3 to KS5 then do check out www.draustinmaths.com. The site is five years old this week ππ and in that time it's amassed over 1000 resources! 1/3

Calling all Maths teachers!
What are some of your all-time great tasks for secondary Maths?
Ones that could have their place in any curriculum, one that should be studied in PGCE courses, ones that started whole new genres of tasks...
... or just ones you really like.
(see some of mine below)
Light bulb moment when looking at OATMaths resouces on solving simultaneous equations by elimination - using zero pairs/identical pairs to decide if you add or subtract - makes so much sense! Used that language with Y10 & they picked it up so quickly. Thanks @jemmaths.bsky.social & team #mathstoday
βCounting with the Simpsonsβ counting in base 8 and exploring different bases
5 questions to test prerequiste knoweldge needed for simultaneous equations. Question 1 asks students to identify the correct first step in solving an equation. Question 2 asks students to identify the mistake made in solving an equation and then solve it correctly. Question 3 asks students to solve 2 step equations. Question 4 asks students to collect like terms. Question 5 asks students to substitute values of x into a an expression to find the value of y
Inspired by @draustinmaths.com chapter in "If I could tell you another thing" and have had a go at creating my own prerequiste knowledge check for simultaneous equations (foundation tier) would be interested in any feedback/tweaks before using it with students next week

The latest TikTok predicted paper scam is a made up "5 year rule". I've found out these companies are making tens of thousands of pounds by lying to students about their "predictive methods". Make sure your students are clued up:

I have done an OAT Maths curriculum update in a while, what with not really going to the other place much. Weβre getting close to finishing the five years now. Just released GM8 Surface Area and Volume and a gorgeous unit* on quadratic graphs and equations (A12).
*Yes, I mean gorgeous.
In my role of KS5 Maths Coordinator, a passion project of mine over the last 3 years has been to launch A-Level Statistics at my school. I successfully launched and now have two cohorts studying towards their A-Level Stats. As is known, there aren't a lot of resources out there so ... #alevelmaths

I complete the assessment but making all the common mistakes/misconceptions that were made on each question. Students go through βmy paperβ in pairs having to work out what the mistake was, correct it and try and explain why the mistake was made. Then Iβll give papers back.
The early bits might be too straightforward for what you want but I really like the later ones startingpointsmaths.com/2020/10/30/i...
